newbie needs help
hi! i test-drove a couple 1993 rx7 in the past few days and the one i test-drove today has 85k miles on original engine(according to the owner, the engine hasnt been rebuilt yet). i notice that the passenger side's front end(wheel gap is larger) is higher than the driver side, this lead to the car points to the right when accelerating. my question is: what causes this and can this be repaired?
i've heard that the R1 pkg has a stiffer suspension, the owner of this rx7 doesnt know if this car has a R1 pkg or not. does the R1 pkg comes with "twin coilover"(i believe that's what i heard, correct me if incorrect). but this rx7 does have a touring pkg for sure. one last question: is it possible for this car to go 85k miles without rebuilding the engine(such as change apex seal)? Thank you for your help! |
It was twin oil coolers, not twin coil-overs. If it is a Touring, it is not an R1. They are both different models, and cannot be stacked. And yes, rotaries can last more then 85k. Perhaps you should try looking into something else...

Man you people are hard on new guys. Remember there was a time that we were all newbies!!! If he want to get the car let him don't flame him because he's trying to get some info because he doesn't know shit about the car. At least direct him to the seach area.

if you're not too mechanically inclined, your best bet is to search and find a shop that knows RX7s and have them do a prebuy on the car for you.

Poor + Student + FD + no knowledge = very bad combination. It may sound like I and others are just being asses, but usually we're saving their ass. |

oh I know what you guys meant, but there was a time that I didn't know shit about this car and that's how we learnd. the best advise for him is to have a good friend that knows the fd and go from there. Xavier was the one who showed me some stuff. When I got my 1st FD I didn't do shit to it. I took it to a mech to get stuff done but sat there next to him to learn. on my second FD I can pretty much do most of the stuff.

hi! i m picking this car up today.
after reading this forum for a couple sleepless night, i've learn a lot. i will change all fluids as I get the car: oil, transmission, differential, coolant, brake. i downloaded a copy of the service maunal from the internet and there is a maintainance guide inside and i will go from there, check spark plug, battery, hoses, fuel filter. i've prepared some money for reliability mods. among all the reliability mods i've learned to apply i can only afford a couple of them at this time, so i will do more study and then decide which ones to do first. |
ok cool.. be sure to have an engine on order when you pick it up :p

i know the risk of getting an used rx7 and i m ready for it---time and money. i always liked rx7 especially its handling. it's worthy. i have about $5k under my bed and it's my rx7 emergency fund. i m getting ready for the turbo and engine rebuild.

We dont try to be assholes here. Its just alot of people post that they want an RX7 and have no clue what they are getting themselves into. The 7 isnt really a poor mans ride. That shit will eat a hole through your wallet faster then your ex wife will.
Just be sure to check your oil everday. These fuckers love oil. |
thanks for advising me. and put 4 oz of engine oil into the gas tank at every fill up, right?

hmm, i read this from the gen3 sticky. i'll check into that again.

so you hear another side of things, i drove my FD every day for 2 years and put about 40K miles on it. in that time, the biggest expense i had was tires. other than oil changes and plugs, the only problem i had was a rad. hose that busted. the cost of the hose was like $10. oh, and also brake pads - like $50 or something.
|
wow, u sure have a nice one to start with.
|
do not put motor oil in the gas!!!!!! use a good 2 stoke oil something low ash. like 4 oz per tank is nice insurace
welcome and good luck |
