< - - - NEWBIE CONSIDERING BUYING RX-7

Hi Guys,
I'm totally new to this, but I've been doing research and whatnot, used the SEARCH button, just have a few questions.

I sold my 1998 GSX Eclipse - she was fast, putting down 336 to the wheels, but heavy as sin and couldn't turn for shit. Anyways, I'm really considering this 1993 RX-7 that's nearby. Its a touring model

I've heard there are issues with the 1993 compared to others, but this guy seems to have taken care of a lot of stuff.

The car has m1 coilovers, winwood brakes, 1250 cc/min secondary injectors, Supra fuel pump, a GReddy sidemount, stock downpipe and cat, petit racing exhaust, 3-piece wheels with new tires, a KDRotary remanufactured engine with a street port, a bigger radiator, 3mm seals, and a GT35/45R turbo setup that's pretty custom (so he says). The car is drinking a little oil from time to time, but he says that's normal and that's what I've read.

He also has an APEX'i PowerFC and AVC-R Boost Controller. He says he's running 14 lbs of boost and making 302 horsepower, but that the car isn't tuned.

Now, I know tuning can mean a lot, but is anything fishy here? Are these proper horsepower figures for these mods, at this boost, without any tuning?

I know I should be able to tell if the seals are no good from idle, is there anything else I should be looking at when I go to drive the car? I mean, everyone knows about the seals, its kind of like buying an Eclipse and knowing the tranny is weak and the motor can pop with too much boost, so you need compression, but what are small things that most people who don't own an RX-7 don't know about? What things would you tell a new owner about before he has to experience them himself?

Thanks a ton,

-=>Marc

how much is he selling it for? he should be making way more than 300hp at 14psi with that single set up. if anything request a compression test.

Sounds like a good deal to me, but I would agree with scartchjunkie on that one.

Not necessarily. Untuned it could be that low.

Read the links at the stickie at the top to start your standard newbie RX-7 research.

running 14psi on an untuned single turbo fd.. is a big risk imo...

if it is cheap enough, who cares. pop the engine and buy a remanned one and ur still in the car for a great deal. alllll depends on what he says his asking price is. looks like alot of $ has gone into it, and it will still all be there for u to bolt onto a new core,......
