New Wiring Harness: How can I preserve it?

The factory piece gets worn eventually and will need replacement. How can I preserve the life of my new harness?

Any help will be appreciated,
Victor :)

You can't really. Unless you want to try to heat wrap the entire thing.. Which I guess could be done, but might suck doing.. :)

dont drive the car;) honestly just make sure you route it the right way and secure the thing correctly.

get some new loom...clean the thing like crazy.......wrap it in some electric tape (like crazy)

mine came out good :)

Maybe wrap it in some of this stuff http://www.designengineering.com/products.html

Use teflon tape + silicone tape. Both are rated to 500F.

Do not use:

Romex (Mazda used this, it maxes out at 85C).
Electrical tape (85C as well).
Wiring loom (200F max).

Get some 50% heat wrap, we use the stuff on F-15's, it will hold up on anything your RX-7 can dish out... It dosen't even have to fit the harness tight to provide protection.

Vented hood, downpipe, ceramic or header wrap on downpipe, single turbo (with careful attention to where the harness runs close to any of its non-OEM parts) -- anything that will keep the underhood temps down. Heat kills the harness.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I already have the DP/MP aluminum-ceramic coated.

When I installed mine new from Ray Crowe, I wrapped it in the Cool-tape mentioned above. It goes on nice and easy. I got it from Summit for like $12. Has held up great and looks good after almost a year.
There's not much you can do to help the connectors; just try to keep the under-hood temps down.

how much did you pay for a new harness?

Flybye 03-04-04 11:08 AM

You could always put a few dozen Peltier coolers on the entire harness :p:

see i dont think thats worth spending the money on a stock harness, spend an extra 250 and get a mircotech, and have a new harness without all those emissions shit.

you could also get a haltech for alittle more. i wouldnt suggest buying a new stock harness, not worth it IMO.

Here's what OKRX-7 probably has in mind.

A shop local to me carries 3M's full line. This particular kind hasn't melted on any of my monster power supplies or robotics projects... yet. ;)

Would it matter if I had a PFC.

Yes.

However if you want to create a new engine-side harness you can do it if you have the time and patience.
