New to rx7s have a question or two.

Ok im new to the rx7 game, i bought a car with a greddy T78 single turbo kit, microtech ecu,a cat, and an exhaust on it... Beyond that i believe the fuel system etc. is stock, the car was tuned to run only 10 lbs of boost and made 300 horse and 250 tq or so.

Anyways,, my question was, it seems that i cant get the tires to let loose... it pulls hard after and when the turbos kick it gets going it seems fine, but is a slug off the line.. never having owner or known anyone with an rx-7 i dont really have anything to compare it to..

Thanks

it's going to be a slug with a T78 off the line... that is a fairly big turbo.

Once you get the fuelling sorted and dial the boost up a little, the sheer power will more than make up to the low end loss.

have you read the FAQ thread at the top of this forum?

why would you buy the car without knowing anything about rx-7s? they are fairly sensitive cars.

i thought you said there was a single t78...why are you refering to it as "the turbos"?

of course its going to feel slug off the line...the turbo has to spool.

what size tires are your running...that's a factor in breaking traction or course. why do you want the tires to break loose anyway? you go faster if they actually stick to the road. haha

guessing by your sig, were you born in 1989? that makes you...how old? am i wrong?

RX7LINK 08-10-07 05:15 PM

yeah, t-78 is one of the "BIG" turbos for rx7. good for drag racing.. and u'll probably see why. lags like a mofo

although i question why its only set at 10lbs... unless its got possible problems or not tuned right for higher?? u might want to do some research on the forum and interview the previous owner a bit more...

Rx72Heaven 08-10-07 05:15 PM

yea, its cause the car has such a big turbo on it, you wont start hitting boost sill like 3000 RPM's. You could always brake boost. Which i dont recommend. Also just rev to 5000 RPM's and just dump the clutch, it will (Should) Spin the tires.

I would check/upgrade your fuel system and get a proper tune. You can easily push more than 300 hp with that setup. Got any pictures of your car yet?

mykah89 08-10-07 06:55 PM

No pictures yet, its a little rough around the edges at the moment and im in the process of redoing the interior with new vinyl/suede , thank you for the responses. Yea i read the FAQ but i figured the FAQ applied mainly to the stock engines and i was just trying to learn a little bit about what i had from others. And i was born in 86 which makes me 21...

Its tuned so low because it was pending a fuel upgrade that the previous owner couldnt afford im guessing.. the engine was street ported with the greddy T78 turbo kit put on, and im guessing they didnt want to risk starving the motor of fuel... obviously my first upgrade will be to iron out the fuel situation. The engine was rebuilt by KDR performance last year around this time, and the previous owner im pretty sure just upgraded the turbo on recommendations from them that he wanted to make more power, i don't think he knew too much about them.

While we are at it i was thinking of going with the denso pump, and the extreme fuel kit from the RX7 store, im in the process of learning everything car related so forgive me if i sound like i dont know what im talking about, its because i dont know very much at the moment.

There's hardly an FD left in this country with a stock engine. What good is an FAQ if it doesn't pertain to anything anyone has?

If you're 21, you must be one of those 21 year olds that never does any research...how much did you spend on this car? how many miles are on the motor? who inspected the car before you bought it? Did you bother to google "RX7" before you bought it? That would have brought you straight to this forum where we could have told you not to buy it :icon_tup: or at least gotten you some support and maybe some local guys to check it out with you.

Am i the only person in my age bracket that does some research before making up my mind? I mean shit, there's so many people "I'm buying an RX-7 tomorrow, what should I look for?" and "I bought an RX-7 last week, the Vin Diesel kind, how much bewst is for 800horse powers?!"

BlowenByTwins 08-10-07 07:26 PM

its probably detuned right now, alright get a better fuel system, 1600cc secondary injectors KG fuel rails, and a denso pump, that might be a little overkill but it will give u room for error and like stated before get it tuned :)

BlowenByTwins 08-10-07 07:28 PM

more info about your setup would be nice, like intercooler, reliability mods... etc.

mykah89 08-10-07 09:19 PM

Has an Apex'i fmic, air intake, boost guage, downpipe, pretty much all of the reliability mods have been done, i could use a water temp guage. I am still in the process of looking around at everything as i dont know the total history of the car, it has a microtech ECU i believe that was installed and rewired under the hood..... i couldnt find too much information on it other than it was better than the stock ECU but there were better ones out there for a little higher price tag.

scotty305 08-10-07 10:54 PM

T78 without an upgraded fuel system or even a water temp gauge. There are some knowledgeable rotary people on the east coast, but your previous owner doesn't seem to have been one of them... at least he upgraded the ECU!

a water temp guage would be a good idea and maybe an air/fuel ratio guage
