A New RX-7 Buyer with blown engine Done know what to do!!!

Hi All,

I just bought a 93 RX-7 R1 manual, but when bought i gues it had a blown engine. Didnt ope the engine from inside yet, but when i try to start it its nit starting + when we checked the engine compression it shows 30 on one of the rotors and they other is 90, so most properly its an engine problem.

Now the question or the help i would like to request form you guys is.... should i look for a used engine ? or should i send my engine overseas and have it rebuilt? or should i buy the overhaling kit and have it fixed here ??

Knowing that in my country NO Body knows how to fix a rotary !!!!

ouch, you're in trouble.

As far as those compression numbers would say, I think it's safe to say the motor is blown. You *could* buy a used jap take-out motor but there's no telling how long that'd last, could be 50k miles, could be 3 miles. Your best bet would be to get a new engine from overseas.

you must be the only person in saudi with a rx7

Jed_only_red_RX7 01-21-04 03:58 AM

Actually not, but im one of the rare persons who owns an RX-7.

So far in my city (which is a major big city) we have only 3 RX-7's(including me) and they are all same moduel same year, but different colors.

I would look into getting a remanufactured engine if you can. Either way, it's probably better that you ship your engine out for a rebuild or get a reman shipped in then trying to rebuild it on your own. Without much, if any help around you, doing your own rebuild may not be much fun if you run into problems.

But, I would NOT order a used engine since it could put you right back in the same position as you are now.

Good luck on whatever you decide! ;)

^ exactly what i was going to say mahjik

Buy a mazdatrix rebuilt...

PDX RX-7 01-24-04 04:07 AM

Same thing happened to me, luckily I bought a warrenty with the car and it paid for just over $3000 of the $5000+ price. I had it polished and ported and the oil and cooling tracks enlarged and used 3mm apex seals. I recommend doing these things if you think there is even a remote chance you might keep the car very long. Good luck!

Im sure you can find someone to rebuild it in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Vary easy rebuild. I dont think its worth it for you to ship it. Order the rebuild video and the needed parts. It will be much faster and cheaper then shiping.

Ask the other guys in Saudi where they go for service and see what they have to say. I know that I've seen at least one other guy from Saudi Arabia on here.

As for where to get a rebuild... Thats hard. You can get a good rebuilt motor from Malloy Mazda here in the states for around $2000. I also know there are a couple of rotary places in Greece/Cyprus also. They post here on the forum sometimes. Do a search and see what you find.

Now, why would you buy a car with a blown engine?

I mean if you bought a car knowing this, shouldn't you have prepared for it before getting the car.

Come to think of it, that's like buying an Arabian thoroughbred with four broken legs. Why??
