New owner of 93 Rx7 turbo
 

Hi everyone I just purchased a 1993 Rx7 Turbo. Is there some stuff I should be told about the internals about this car. I used to own a 1994 Supra TT and beat it like a machine-not to often. Now how about the Rx7, it has 83k on all original Motor and Tranny, Turbos were replaced. Is there any special remedies to keeping the rotary in good shape? I was so excited to get this and finally Ive got it. What type of problems should I look for? Also can you run these cars pretty hard and not worry about anything? I mean in a respectable manner that is. The car came with upgrade radiator, DP, Cat-Back Exhaust, Air intake, Ecu chip. This car has the most smoothest power pull Ive ever felt. The supra didnt compare in my books. So any helpful tips to me will be appreciated. Also everytime I put in coolent in the resvoir it spills out..probably a crack or something??

Welcome to the forum and congratulations.

Now, it's time for you to spend the couple of hundred hours reading info about the FD that you should have read before buying the car.....:)

BTW, you don't add coolant to the reservoir tank. If it reads below MAX, you add water/coolant to the filler neck (located at left front of engine).

Good luck. Do a lot of research before you do any modifications.

Yes the coolant tank spills onto the ground... no crack, it's part of the overflow system, the reservoir is not a good place to add coolant, it's more of a catch tank... like rynberg said add it @ the filler neck or the AST if you must, but give the filler neck a shot first... wait for bubbles, once it's full and no more bubbles, close and Enjoy ! :D

And get ready to replace that motor.. its going to go any second :evil:

If he abuses it, this is no supra... your coolant seals will fail, the question is weather they'll fail sooner or later... depends on your lead foot.. and weather you warm her up gently and let her cool down... If you take it easy and she was babied, you can expect another 40K out of that motor... if not pray for another 20 K :D

Welcome. Do lots and lots of reading. Get a shop manual if you plan to do anything new and always give your car time to warm up and cool down after each drive or else! If you do any mods, make reliability mods first OK. Happy driving.
