New here..have some questions

Sup everyone? I currently drive a '95 Z32 but my parentals won't let me work on it. So they offered if I find a diff. car I can work on it. Well found a '93 FD. Only problem..its auto.

Would it be worth it to convert it fro auto to manual? Is it true auto RX7's dont lose boost between shift?

http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...y&cardist=1053 there is a link to the FD im lookin at..

thank you for any advice! :)

ne1?

SpeedKing 06-19-05 02:45 AM

Why bother w/ all that work and hassle? Just wait for a nice 5-spd. car to come along.

negativezeroz 06-19-05 02:49 AM

what about this one? http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...=y&cardist=107

dgeesaman 06-19-05 06:25 AM

$8k is quite low. Might be perfect for someone who wants to work on it ;) Might not be running much, but plenty of work to do.

Dear god, please dont buy this car! Going off your question about the boost, you are in no way shape or form fit to own this car.

what does that mean? you can't work on a 300zx but its ok if its an FD? auto's are fucking lame, but if you have the parts and time to convert to 5speed then do it...

p.s - that guys ad should read..."Origonal motor on the verge of a catashrophic breakdown, and needing a rebuild, and a 5 speed swap since the car is auto"

negativezeroz 06-19-05 02:35 PM

my parents wont let me work on the Z cuz its a "collectors car" or something..but yea i can everyone just "loves" my company around here...

ok so since I cant work on my VG but everyone here seems to not want me to get the FD...

FD motors dont last long do they? Considering alot of people said they had to get new motors around 60K...so the silver auto w 113K isnt a good idea is what im taking from all you guys and the red one w 90K isnt good either?

rotorsownyou7 06-19-05 02:41 PM

First question is how old are you? What kind of funds do you have to work with after you buy the car? How mechanically inclined are you?

negativezeroz 06-19-05 02:51 PM

17, depends on how much money i get from my z,..problem about mechanically inclined cuz i dont hav the tools needed..audio is more my thing but i hav alot of friends who work on Tegs, S14's, EG/EF's, etc etc...all the time so i have access to some tools if they would let me use them/help me..

Alright, well my advice is get something else and get an FD when you are older and have some money.

CANRX7GX 06-19-05 09:40 PM

I say don't get an fd. GEt a civic

negativezeroz 06-19-05 10:43 PM

fuck civics...only Honda I would actually want to drive would be the S2000...

and no my Z is a 1995

7_rocket 06-19-05 10:56 PM

A S2000 is going to be a better fit for you... Being able to afford to "purchase" a FD is a LOT different than being able to afford to "maintain" a FD.

shrtyGT500 06-19-05 11:14 PM

yeah really, i agree with everyone else....DO NOT BUY THIS CAR1.u are not mechanicly inclined to maintaine the car 2. I can garuntee your friends have not worked on a car like the fd before and 3 u wont have the funds to repair the car once u buy it becuase the fd's u showed us were going to need a new motor probably enyway.....take mahjik's advice, buy the s2000.

FDNewbie 06-19-05 11:46 PM

Hey man. Don't take the rough comments too personally. A Z is pretty damn reliable up to the 400hp range... FD's are unreliable out of the box lol. Hence the need for reliability mods, which will run you prob a bit over a grand. Modifying an FD is so expensive, it's prohibitively so. For every grand in mods, you'll prob spend another 2 or 3 in misc repairs and labor. It's the real meaning of project: it breaks on you, it may take you months to afford a repair. Engines don't last long, and that's a $5K job, EASY. So it's def. not to be taken lighty.

On a diff note, that silver FD in DC that your first link was to...umm...no offense to the seller, he is FULL of it. He says "very good condition...get in and drive." True...he just left the rest of the sentence off the ad "to PFS, then to the body shop" Oh and I love how his FD has "tilt wheel" lol. Damn...I guess my FD didn't come w/ that option ;)

That car is the BIGGEST POS FD I've seen in a WHILE. I had a list going of what needed to be done to this car. His initial asking price was $13K mind you. He brought it down to $10K. I wouldn't pay more than $5K for it. Engine's on the way out. There's a leak in the coolant system somwhere. Turbos are effed up. Most interesting boost pattern I've EVER seen. Something like 12-8-6 or something like that lol. Boost is inconsistant in diff shift modes (normal vs sporty etc). Auto does suck btw. Interior is jacked. Panels are messed up. Exterior has scratches and dings - needs a repaint. Tires are on the way out. Brakes need replacing, and master cylinder may be on the way out (brakes are soft). Steering wheel's wobbly - needs an alignment, or possible covered up suspension/frame damage. Radio doesn't work. Antenna's busted. CD deck is busted. Suspension is jittery. Car pulls to one side at speed and braking, and suspension clunks. Umm...I think one of the windows is cracked, and there's one or two things I'm forgetting that aren't mentioned. In short, I wouldn't put more than $5K into that peice of CRAP, and that was me being generous. There's a good reason why it hasn't sold for this long, depsite the low price, and the rare red interior (which is jacked).

turb0x2 06-19-05 11:55 PM

^^haha seems liek you did some research there ramy...now tell me what you really think ;)

FDNewbie 06-20-05 12:02 AM

LOL Na Nick...I went to check it out w/ a friend who was serious about buying it if it checked out. Needless to say, we walked away GLAD we didn't agree on a price. How you beat the crap of an FD that badly, not repair ANYTHING, then tell me you take the car regularly to PBC...it's simply beyond me. And the nerve of him lying in his autotrader ad. I mean c'mon...you know how messed up it would be if some poor newb bought the car w/o knowing any better, and the coolant ran out, engine overheated, and he found out the turbos were shot? And to pass inspection he'll new pads, rotors, and an alignment? OMG, I'd freakin BAWL like a baby, then go back to the guy's house and take a bat to his skull. I HATE dishonest shady sellers...

turb0x2 06-20-05 12:15 AM

haha ...i agree 100%

Scrub 06-20-05 12:49 AM

oh yeah Ramy, you forgot the car was in a "minor" front end collision. The driver fender on that silver 7 needs replacement. Pretty much every body panel on the car needs some attention. I was the guy who was serious about buying the 7. It was actually gonna be for me/ my g/f. But when I went and took it out me and Ramy made a HUGE list of problems with the car, which the seller just didn't want to hear. I told the guy straight up I'd give him 4k for it...even that was a stretch.
