New, and have qustions about engine longativity

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and i'm considering gettin a 1999 C5 corvette or a 93-94 Rx7 and I was wondering how long do the rotary engines last before you have to do a rebuild.

And do u guys usually have a lot of problems with your Rx-7's?

I know just about nothing about the Mazda Rotary engine and the Rx-7, as i was a former bmw guy, so any info you can provide me on what to look for when buying these cars would be great.

I'm looking to spend about 15-25K on a car. What is your unbias opinion on which car i should get.

sorry for all the questions, i'm new

thanks!

alot of people will ask you to do a search on the upper right corner of the webpage... doing a search will help you get alot more info.

being on the rx7 forum and all, I'm sure 99.99% people will tell you to get an rx7

have you seen the interior of the c5 vette??
IMHO, it's pretty crappy

the 3rd gen rx7 interior is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more sportier lookin

I just recently bought a super babied '94 FD who has a C5 corvette. He told me that the vette has more raw power, but the rx7 just flys over the vette on the freeway

Good luck..

Engines need rebuilds most commonly for two reasons:
1) Failed Coolant seals or other internal soft seals
2) Broken apex seal

#2 can happen at any time if detonation takes place. So anything that would lead to lean a/f could cause it - stuck injector, bad gas, tuning mistake, over-modding the stock ecu, etc.

#1 can happen shortly after the engine overheats, or anywhere from 50k-100k if the car is properly warmed up and the engine never overheats.

Put the two together and a careful owner can get 60-100k on average.

if youll have money to repair things when they break or to mod the car get the rx7. i dont think theres a more rewarding car when its all done right its very very fun to drive. the vette is if you want a really nice car thats pretty fast and comfortable gets good gas mileage and wont give you problems....the fd is time consuming once you start to mod it so if you want just a regular car the vette is for most people. A lot of times I wish I just had a vette and called it a day but I love the feel of the rx7

Yeah, if you are worried about reliability issues, buy a C5.

either get the C5, or get a RX7 and a daily driver.
