New ECU - Low idle

Hi guys!

This weekend i installed a Knight Sports Ecu and when i started the car, i noticed that the idle was really low and the car was all the time stalling (like 200rpm to 750 and back to 200..). Then i adjusted the screw (on the throttle body) to get the right idle. However, after i good run the idle went back to low revs. Does anyone know why please?

(I also tried to disconnect the air pump but there was no difference. I also tried to remove the stock airfilter but it was invain too)

P.s the Knights Sports Ecu is setup to run on an open exhaust and aftermarket muffler. Boosted up to 0.9 Bar and No fuel Cut. My mods are- All stock except for a mid-pipe and cat back exhaust.

Many thanks !!!

Anyone please?

I would start by adjusting the screw on the bottom of the throttle body.

Also, that ECU is designed for a Japanese car. You'll most likely have to take the same steps installing that ECU as you would with installing a PowerFC - cut the 4 wires, etc.

Dale, my car is a JDM import so i do not think that i need to do any extra mods like you mentioned. However, thanks for your suggestion.

Could it be a TPS related problem?

Mahjik, are you refering to the screw near the 'thorttle lever' (the one attached to the gas paddel?

Nope. There is a screw on the bottom of the throttle body, just above the gas catch tank in the purge system. Typically you'll need to remove the elbow to have access to it.

Thanks Mahjik! I'll take your suggestion and see what happens.

Monsterbox, i found a pic that might help in one of the forums. The one in the green circle is the one that we have to adjust.

I can't wait to get to my car and check it out.

Mahjik, i did what you suggested but their was no difference. (i guess i turned the screw just a little bit) I was afaid that if i mess alot with the screw i would mess the fuel air ratio to much. What do you think?
Thanks!

Could it be a problem with the fuel that i'm using? Its unleaded petrol with 95RON.

Hi guys! I have just contacted KnightSports in Japan and they have been really helpful. One of the problem was because the ECU that i purchased was programmed to work without the airpump. I disconnected the airpump but the problem didn't dissapear. The other problem is that the ecu is programmed to run on 100RON unleaded petrol or higher. Now i am considering to re-send back my ecu to Japan(Knightsports) and have it re-programed to my specs.

I would recommend getting it re-programmed for your car. That's kind of the problem with picking up a used Knightsports or RE-A ecu is that unlike the USA rechipped ECU's, they are programmed differently. The USA based rechipped ECU's basically use one map per company (i.e. Pettit Racing has one map, M2 uses a different map, etc).

^ Yeap, i think that's what i'm gonna do. I have just had a quote from Knightsports. Including the shipping to my country the total price is 315USD.

I am still not conviced what to do, cause if i'll make any further modifications i would have to re-program it again i guess.

well great i adjusted idle from screw on top of TB...anything above 850 bounces like all hell unless u take it all the way to 1400 so that the ecu reads it as throttle....so im guessing DONT mess with that screw at all and use the green one in the picture...r you sure its the green one and not the red one with the spring? i adjusted the red one with the spring in the past
