new build, oil pressure issue, no start??
 

Hello all, I just finished my build and got it started yesterday.....it had good oil pressure (40-50psi) and I burped the coolant system..and had no issues.
Well , today I bled the brakes and was going to take it for a spin...it started fine...and then I noticed the oil pressure was pegged 100+ psi....I have a mechanical gauge and the stock gauge both read the same... I bumped the throttle alittle and the pressure started to go down and go down and then it was at 0 psi... I shut it down and checked everything over again..I tried to start it again and nothing . oil was full but had fuel smell and was alittle low on viscosity...so I changed the oil and filter...still won't start...

Well, I got it started this morning...pulled the spark plugs last night and let it set over night....still no oil pressure though...just need to find out if its a clog, a bad regulator or pressure valve...

I dropped the pan today and found that the brass plug after the pump had blown out...possibly from the high pressure...front pressure releif is free moving not sure what caused the high oil pressure....I ordered a new front releif and new rear regulator and I staked to crap out of the brass plug....hopefully it will hold..

So how many of you have had a problem with oil line plugs blowing out?

I tried to search but this must be a very rare issue...

blown out, as in, came loose? what does 'staked' mean?

Never heard of this problem. Do you have an oem stock oiling system?

In this context, staking is deforming the surrounding material (such as a rod-end housing) to retain something (such as the rod-end race and ball assembly) permanently.

100+ PSI is not unusual.

If that blew it out, then it was probably weak to start with.

I think I've figured out why the plug came out...Just remember to tap out your oil line holes before you get your iron housings ion nitrided...the hardening process will distort the oil line plug holes and cause them to blow out at high pressure...don't wait till after because the ion nitriding hardness is upward around 65-70 HRC with a case depth of .030" and the tap is around 60-65 HRC...making it very difficult to tap the hole...I had to create a reinforcement bracket for all my oil line plugs..just in case.
