New 7. got some bugs to work out

i just bought a new fd. the body and interior are in perfect condition. the car starts idles and drives perfectly until... when i start the car up and let it idle, after bout five or so minutes the smell of burning belts start to linger in the air. an fc i once owned had a problem with the alternator and it burned through belts. what is wrong with this? also, as i push the throttle closer to wot, the engine seems to die and it bucks until i let off. does anyone have any advice. the car is completely stock with 120k miles and no rebuild. please help.

120k on original motor could be your problem... You should do a compression test.

As far as the belts, visually inspect them. Check and see if they are too tight, and maybe just replace them for the heck of it. The last thing you want is a belt to break when you're out driving.

Try replacing the fuel filter and swap in some new spark plugs. You might want to check the plug wires for damage also. If your still getting break up I would inspect and test the coils, coil harness etc.

You can adjust the tension on the alteranator belt.
