Need your help, bad electrical problem.

OK, I was down at the drag strip, about to make a 3rd and final pass, everything going good... Pulled up to the water trap Got the tires spinning, let it roll up and catch.... right at the end of the burn out, it got a little wheel hop, and fuck! The next thing I know the engine just cuts out....Try to start it back up, and get nothing.... So we push it back, it's still got compression pulse's then I notice the Power FC commander is not show ANYTHING, and that it has blown the EGI fuse in the box that is right off of the battery. I replaced the fuse, the power FC commander lit up for a second, blew the fuse again.... WTF? So Anyways, trailer it home, the starter wire (hot wire to the starter) has a cut from running over the motor mount, fixed that, and it still is blowing the EGI fuse, and something else very wierd. The car is ice cold, and the fans are coming on??? (but only when the EGI fuse is back in place, which I had to replace it with a larger fuse just to see if it would do anything different)

Anyways, the power-FC is getting no power, has anyone had this problem, were should I start to look? I'm going to put the stock ECU back in tommorow after work, and see if the power FC maybe took a shit. But the commander doesn't work, and the buttons only light up very dimmly (can barely see them at night) and a black bar goes across, and then disapears and nothing happens. I have power to everything else in the car (lights, gauges, fans.....) Any advice?

It sounds like you still have a short somewhere down the line. Try to check as much of your wiring as possible, something got crossed somewhere.

I swapped out the stock ECU last night, and it made no difference....

And I really hope I don't have to replace the harness! I already had to do that once when I built the car, and that was not a fun job.....

And I just read your thread, and I feel much better, hopefully I might be able to fix it.

Did you check the in car engine fuse? By the dead pedal? Should be a 15 amp. Not a wise thing to stick a larger fuse than recommended to check things. Taking a chance on burning up your ecu. If it is not blown trace the wire you fixed. It may be burned up in another spot. Wouldnt hurt to check the wires leading to the alt. hotside (to the connecter that plugs into the alt). That will trip your egi also. If your computer is not getting power it should be blown egi, in car engine, or main..Hope this helps..G

The EGI keeps blowing.... It's the only fuse that is going. And it blows as soon as you turn the key on (I mean within 1 second!) Also I switched out the realays (the green/yellow ones) in the fuse box on the drivers side strut tower, and that made no difference.

check to see if your getting continuity on the egi relay its self..and check if theirs continuity to the ecu itself as well

Is your battery tied down? Could be rubbing the + terminal on the hood.
For the fans, sounds like you grounded the ecu wire (fan mod).

It is blowing because whatever wire that is touching metal or shorting is still contacting. My problem was the + side of the alt. wiring when my egi fuse was doing the same thing. Gonna have to break out the fsm and start tracing wires that run through that fuse. (Fans, alt, starter, ecu)..
