Need tips on starting the car after a few years of sitting

I've got a situation where the car hasn't been started in a few years (rats nest fire - minor). The compression was good back when but I'd like to double check it. I've removed all of the nest, injectors, coils, etc. I'm looking for some info on pre-start/ignition. I'm unsure what I'll need to do in prep work since its sat for so long. a complete oil change seems worthless (having dual oil coolers, etc) - I'm only looking for compression numbers. Would pre-lubing the housings help? I've been told I could squirt a bit of WD-40 into the spark plug hole to provide a better surface for the seals. I dont want to hurt the housings assuming they're still in good shape. I'm unsure how to ensure I dont hurt the engine and need advice. thanks!

What I would do:

1. Coolant flush
2. Remove the spark plugs and either clean the ones there are use some new ones
3. Shoot some MMO into the spark plug holes. Leave it in there for a day, the next day give the motor a half turn on the e-shaft bolt and shoot a little more MMO in there. Do that one more time (for another day)
4. Make sure the battery is charged. Pull the EGI fuse and crank the motor a few times to get the fluids circulating

Lasty, put the EGI fuse back and crank it up. Expect some smoke for a while. ;) If you don't have much fuel in the tank, you might think about draining it and putting in some new fuel. However, if the tank has quite a bit in it, just drive easy on it until you can put some fresh fuel in.

I'll need to replace the engine harness but I will give it a shot. thanks!

also I would drain the gas, and change the oil.

This sounds like me, except I want to start it to sell the engine and transmission.

I am placing an order for a new gas tank just to be safe (rust).
