just a question... does ur pre cat glows red hot at night?? mayb its either the pre cat or catalytic converter being cloged...

Mr rx-7 tt 02-25-03 12:29 PM

Sounds like the motor might be bad..check the hoses and get a compression check.

Broken09 02-25-03 12:44 PM

I don't have a precat and I have a high flow cat. Like I said my plan is to do the Vac Hose job anyway so we'll see if that fixes it, I'm also going to check the boost sensor while i'm at it, and if that doesn't fix it then it may be time for a new engine

Broken09 02-26-03 07:49 AM

well I changed the boost sensor vac hoses last night and checked my other visible connections. Had the battery undone while doing this and then reset the ECU cause of the problems I've been having. Anyway either I flooded the engine or drained the battery somehow cause I put everything back together and now the car won't turn over. I swear the more I work on the car the dumber I get especially at midnight. anyway I'll bust out the voltmeter tonight and see if my battery is dead, if it's not that I'll take everything apart and make sure I reconnected everything correctly. If that still doesn't work then I'm just going to totally tear her down and start installing my new parts I ordered and take it to the shop and get them to put her back in total running condition.

ok there were two things last night that were weird to me while I was replacing that vac hose.

First off the wires for the tps sensor were quite strained is that the case with any of these cars or do I have an area somewhere where I probably have some slack that is caught up somewhere?

Second after resetting my ecu the odometer went all to 0's is that normal or did I disconnect or damage a wire that caused that?

Cihuuy 02-26-03 10:20 AM

which v.hoses did you manage to check and replace?

im not sure y ur getin 0's... did u clean and tighten the battery?? mayb it was just loose...

What do you mean the car won't turn over and you either flooded it or emptied the battery.
If it doesn't turn over it's got to do with electricty - i.e. battery is disconnected or dead.

Your black smoke means the car is getting too much fuel. It could be the boost sensor or O2. Could also be a bad injector injecting too much fuel ?
High RPM, if maintained (or even raised) when engine warms up, is a sign that the car probably can't run with lower RPMs or it will die - bad compression.

I could be way off here though. I'm no mehanic, but just thinking rationally.

I changed only the two vac hoses that deal with the boost sensor for now since I believe that could be a problem, (the short one from the boost sensor and the long one from the throttle body that are connected by the..... little piece in the middle ..... i'm drawing a blank as to the name of it.

As for the engine not turning over it wants to it just won't more than likely it's my battery.... sorry if I sound really f'n dumb right now I didn't sleep much last night and I'm trying to explain what I did the best way I can but I'm dumb right now. anyway I'll check the battery, I know I connected it because the engine starts turning over just doesn't fully turn over. The battery terminal is clean I made sure I did that before reconnecting. I thought it was low battery so I made sure my radio was off as well before starting. I'm telling you though when I turn the key the odometer reads 0's all the way across.

paw140 02-26-03 12:16 PM

Does the odometer read 0, or the trip meter read 0? If your odo reads 0, something is majorly messed up, because it should be impossible to tamper with that. If your odo is reading 0, you might have a problem with your ecu. It is normal for the trip meter to reset when you disconnect the battery.

Broken09 02-26-03 12:25 PM

Yeah i figured that much and I tried changing the readout from what it was, it still stayed at 0's so yeah either I really fucked something up although I dont' know how since all I did was take off the elbow, throttle cable, and throttle body. We'll see with my normal luck it's probably a stupid mistake I overlooked cause of how tired I was. That was late last night, I'll try it again tonight when I get home if I have the time. As well as get the voltmeter out and see about the battery. I may tear that stuff down again and make sure I reconnected everything, if I did and it still doesn't run.... like I said I'll try a couple more things and go from there. I'm just kind of at a loss.
