Need to mount video camera in FD
 

I would like to know if anyone has mounted a video camera in their car?? I want to video tap forward vision so it must somehow be mounted b/w the seats at head level and semi forward so it doesn't get the entire dash.

Also, if you have done this what did you do about the rearview mirror??

I mount my digital camcorder to the rear strut brace.

I use a Manfrotto clamp, it can clamp onto a rectangular bar, or a round one, the clamp is adaptable.

It can only move in one plane, ie no up or down or tilt, but that is fine. The pictures are perfect, and the forward view is not obstructed by the rear view mirror.

The clamp is only $40 Can. (about $25 USD).

I don't have the part number ( i will see if i still have the box at home) , but you should be able to find it at any photo shop. you will also need the piece that attaches the camera to the mount $10 bux.

I ditto "the_saint". The rear strut bar is perfect. We (Cincy RX7 Club) go to several driving schools (road courses) a year. We take turns mounting the camera in different cars and then play back the video at our monthly meeting. Excellent tool to see what you're doing on the course.

Does anyone have pics of their system while its installed. Also, what about a pic of the clamp system?

Do you think any camera store will have them?

They will cost about $50 USD together. They work great.

I don't have a picture, but will see if I can take one tomorrow.

ya, those are the kind of clamps we use at radioshack to prevent theft on our video cameras... we have locks on them

works pretty good in a store, never tried in car though :) I might just do it now...
