Need a Mechanic

First post, so here goes. Have an FD, 94, which is currently at a Mazda dealer in Columbia Missouri. Have replaced blown engine with factory rebuilt unit and have had turbo rebuilt also, but dealer cannot get the thing to run right!! Car has been down for over a year.

I know from reading some of your posts that a dealer is the last place it should be, I'm in the middle of nowhere and so don't know what else to do.

Anyone suggest a good mechanic in the state of Missouri that I could take it to? I love the car, bought it and ran it for only about three months before disaster. I need to get this car back on the road. Help......

Sorry I can't help much with symptoms. I only drove the car for a few months, and never had a chance to study the car much. The car is about 40 miles away so don't have much direct contact with the dealer.

At first when they put the motor and rebuilt turbo back in he said that the turbo boost was high, even at low rpm's and that was the main problem. Later they said that it acted like the timing was off, and check engine light comes on at times.

Sounds like they have tried everything they can, including swapping parts, even the computer, but nothing seems to solve the problem. It's possible I suppose that they just don't know what they are doing.

Next step he wants to do is to take car to a tech center in Kansas City, I guess Mazda has a center there, and hopefully they can figure something else out.

I know this all sounds pretty stupid. I would love to keep and run this car, but I'm not sure that time, will or cash to do so.

Even if I decide to sell it, I need to get it running......

Well, you can talk to Hurst Imports here in Indepenence Missouri. They have worked on my car several times, and they are about the only shop around here that deals with rotaries..

However, they do not like to work on serious problems (like heavy engine work) since it does tie up a stall in their car bay for a while. Give them a call and tell them your situation:

Hurst Imported Car Service Inc
13208 East Us Highway 40
Independence, MO 64055
816-373-3100

You could also PM RTS3GEN . He's located over in Kansas and may be able to offer a little help or advice.

Good luck.
