Need to know if i can run racing gas?
Im going to the track on wednesday night my FD is pretty much stock. I want to know if my car would benifit from having race gas and would it effect my car. Ive never ran race gas before and i just want to know if this is a good and most importantly safe thing for my FD please let me know im going to the track on wednesday..
thanks |
The only thing it will really give you is a bit of anti-detonation protection. I use "race gas" for road racing, due to the extended periods of boosting and high temperatures.
If you're bone stock, it's probably a waste of money just for drag racing, but it is a little bit of insurance. Also, make sure you only put in unleaded racing gas, which is usually limited to 100 octane. Leaded gas can ruin your o2 sensor and cat. |
and you need special plugs for leaded gas, that are at least 2 heat ranges colder than what you normally run (ex, stock is heat range 7, and 9, so you'd need four 11's for example)
NGK racing 11's |
The average readily available unleaded race fuel types (i.e., available at a track from their own pumps) probably won't provide much of a power difference, and their quality would be suspect anyway. However, there are many unleaded race fuels (Sunoco GT104, Powermist RFG, VP, Elf, etc.) that will provide a noticeable power difference, but they are very expensive, and wouldn't be worth it in your application.

having a bridge port, my car LOVES race gas, all of the little quirks go away, it starts right up on the first go and drives more like a street port

the only mod i have done to my car is a full exhuast system. Dp, MP, and PFS exhuast and its boost at 10psi. It has a 10-8-10 boost pattern. Also i just installed some new NGK R spark plugs 2 trailing and 2 leading...so would i benifit from some 95 octane or its it just not worth my money?
|
95 isn't worth it
|
I metion 95 cause i know there a gas station near the track that offers 95. But at the track they offer 100 or 101 octane gas not sure if its unleaded. but i would used a leaded gas anyway
|
i run 100, 104 is the highest you have unleaded
|
it will kill your o2 and race gas (higher octane) acctualy burns slower it helps with anti det. people run it in order to run higher boost longer without det.

before I got my water injection I ran race gas at the track. With my midpipe I ran 118 octain, with my HFC I ran 100 octain. Since I got water injection I dont have to spend the $8.00 per gallon for race fuel now. Its pretty cool.
But as far as your question, its pretty much what everyone said. If you have a cat use 100 octain or lower. |
Before Sunoco GT 100 Octane race fuell all the time, motor's blowin. Now I drive the piss out of my car and have had no problems, crossed fingers.
I was running the anti-det mod but did not feel compfortable with the high EGTs it produced. I am talking 1500 to 1800 degrees hotter. What a can of worms I just opened. :p: |
yeah, it feels more solid with 100octane when you nail it, i love it
|
OK so i don't have a cat I just have DP,MP, and exhuast SO would i benfit from race gas or should i just stay away from it untill i get more modifactions?
|
it wouldn't hurt, but it isn't worth the extra $$ for only 2 octane points
try it and let us know |
well if i could run 100 octane i will i was just saying they had some 95 oct but at the track they offer some higher octane i just don't want to mess up my FD its currently my DD?
