Well I have the Apexi super intake but from looking around I feel as though the Crooked Willow or M2 be about the best out there. They have concealed boxes for the air and that seems to be the way to go. Oh and if anyone out there wants to trade my like new Apexi for their Pettit intake I am willing since I am trying to do up an all Pettit car, thanks guys,

Air Box
Well Apexi and HKS AND Airlynx and all that other stuff are all foam style (more propriotary to those intake/intercooler combos) And they look cool if you live in a cooler area..........But if you live in the heat...that's pretty hot air going in that intake. Thus the "cold air box" is around. And I live in the California heat!
My opinions:
M2: Carbon Fiber, over engineered (thats not a bad thing) inexpesive (there is no way in hell I could make this thing for $485) 2 K+N's mounted I bought it and I am very pleased. Thank you sir, can I have another!
Pettit O.K. I guess....it way over priced for a couple K+N air filters and a piece of sheet aluminum with a chunk of foam. It should cost $179 max buts it's a lot more. But that's Pettits way....to charge you up!
N Tech: Like the Pettit, but better thught out and made, hence it has angles to seal the area (see their site)
But if you can afford it .........M2

I have the newer rx7fashion box (very sim to m2's)
and with a mazdacomp radiator you have to cut off the flap on one side of the rad...this would have to be done with m2's box as well.

Agreed M2 is very nice. I traded my N-Tech for one and love it. The N-Tech is a great intake.
Yes you need to modify (ie cut the flap) of the Mazda comp radiator for all of the intakes that use the side of the radiator for fresh air. M2, Pettit, N-tech, RX7Fashion, CWR, etc

1. Allow more room for SMIC
2. Free up space behind the radiator for more efficient cooling

I have to admit, the only thing that got me to remove my modded stock box was the fact it wouldn't fit under my vented hood. Run some air hoses from the front of the car to the stock box, seal the commond duct between the IC and airbox, and you've got a great CAI!
