Need help on wiring defrost switch light

I have 1 harness for the defrost switch.

I'm adding a switch to control a garage door opener. Wiring the switch is easy (so the door opener activates at switch press)

but how can I wire it so it lights ups like the others?

can I just connect the black & white wires from the defrost switch harness to the respective points on the new garage door switch (which is a repurposed defrost switch). The garage door opener has battery power, so I don't want "double" power... I'm trying to send power to JUST the light bulb.

I have added several switches. Either use a side tap connector on each of the smaller light wires on one of the other switches, these are the smaller gauge red wires with the blue or green stripe, or tap the same wires in the ash tray light. Then attach a spade connector to the other end and plug into the same connection on the new switch that corresponds to the still stock defrost switch location. Really easy to this with a few new connectors from Autozone or similar car parts store.

thanks, that's what I THOUGHT I was trying earlier without any luck. It made sense in my head... but didnt seem to work. Maybe I just wasnt getting a solid enough connection.

but if I understand you right, basically the "bottom" 2 wires would be for the light. Bottom is the part closest to the back end of the car.

Yes. That is correct. The smaller gauge or caliber red wires. Not the larger wires in the front or nearer the dash. These wires are the same for all the switches. The back or smaller wires are for the switch light.

I should have been smarter on my troubleshooting... I could have plugged the new defrost switch into the defrost harness to confirm the bulb is dead.

I assume the bulbs are NOT easily replaced & you just replace the switch?

I don't know of any way to replace the bulb. Does look like a new switch.
