Sounds like the starter solenoid.

was the starter you installed new or used?
if you have to tap on it to start is then its is bad
also check the resistance in the wire form the starter to the battery.

you could of got a bad rebuilt starter....its happened to me, rare but it happens...
like everyone else said if you have to tap on it , its bad...

also check the wires going to the starter, make sure there not corroded...
get a test light and check wires going to and from ...

Then it sounds like a defect starter or an error in the installation.

Check wires for loose connections.

What about your ignition switch - behind the key - not usually a problem in the fd but have seen in other cars

well that was kinda an option...but i wanted to make sure it wasnt anything else before i spent money on a ignition switch ya know?

st8uphiphop 02-13-07 01:10 AM

well first off im gonna change some of the ground wires cause that may be the problem....then im gonna change out the ignition switch and then change out the starter....AGAIN! any other things i should try checking or changing before i start spending my money???
