Need Help With Dad's 3rd Gen....

Ok well my dad was driving took a turn at around 45, lost the backend and all RPM and Speedo died, also the screen that displays the milage went along with it. So today i went to check it out i hit the top of the gauge and it jumped up for a second like it should be and died. ALso the radio when it gets turned on theres no sound you can hear the sub in the back sounds like a dead body in the back of the car, and last thing the one of the rear lights went out how do i replace it how do i get to the lights?? and wjere is the switch located for the Fog Lights when i turn on all the lights the fog lights dont seem to work.

wow sounds like some electrical connections may be grounding eachother out. rip the dash out and investigate.

Not much to tell ya, except to pull the console and look at the wires and connectors. These things you just have to put on your detective hat, use your head, and have a look around. Just don't break anything in the process.

A continuity tester will be helpful tool. You may consider looking at the connectors for bent/broken pins or loose connections to the wires.

Haven't you taken off the console yet?

PhatManBUD 07-23-04 11:46 AM

it could be the flangemel adapter?

You need to check the speedometer sensor at the right rear side of the transmission. You may have done a couple of things. You may have spun the inner-workings of the transmission backwards when you spun the car and broke the little gear in the spin. That little gear is just plastic. You also may have damaged the wiring to the sensor by pinching it against something if the transmission swayed at all. You also have a back up light sensor at the back left side of the transmission that got damaged which may explain the problem with your rear lights.

I have been trying to solve a similar problem with my car only with my car when you turn the key the tach and speedo jump up to 18mph and goes from there. The tach starts at 1,500 rpms. Still trying to solve this problem but grounding seems to be a big issue with my car. I'm on to my 4th coil in a month. Finally worked out that the ground going to the T1 coil is shot. New harness on the way. This one should make it. Still nothing with the gauge cluster. My milage does work along with all other gauges.

Good luck

Good! Then it must be a wiring problem behind the dash. As for the rear tail light, there is a screw I believe on the fender end of the light assembly or toward that end accessible under the deck lid. Once that is removed, the light assembly simply pops out by pushing it out in the direction of the fender.
