Need answer asap about coolant system?

I am changing my radiator Right Now! When I put the new ast on and my new radiator on do I need to re pressurerize my system? Also someone was talking about air pockets when I restart my car with the new radiator. Basically my question is can I just hook everything back up and add fluid and start the car or do I have to do something else be for that? I would search but I don't have time the car is over my pit right now! Thanks for the help. Adam

It's like most any other radiator/coolant system; it pressurizes itself as the coolant expands when it gets hot (you do need the proper and functioning pressure cap on the AST, however).

You may have air pockets in your coolant system that need "burping". The best way is to bleed off the air at the highest point in the system: the throttle body coolant line on the firewall side. Look closely on the firewall side of your throttle body, and you'll see a rubber line with a constant tension spring clamp on it. Disconnect that line and bleed it off until you see coolant flowing out of it.

You should research as many aspects of the job on your car you're attempting to tackle before you start tearing it apart and have it sitting "over the pit".

In addition to pouring slowly when refilling the system (1 litre / minute is what I've read somewhere), and filling with the TB coolant line opened to allow air to escape, you will get a lot more air out of the system if you run the car for about 5 minutes with one of these on the fill neck (not the AST cap).

Thanks everyone for the quick response. I read last night and it worked great. Also I did reasearch it quite a bit and read my shop manual twice and felt pretty confident untill my dumbass freind came over and was like, "You have to pressurize this system I read it on the forum" Ya last time I listen to his dumb ass. Thanks alot guys!
