Name that sound (vid)

A little while after I got my PFC I was getting on it a little and the car died and it wouldn't start back up. I've checked fuses, replaced the starter and hooked the factory ECU back up with no fix. With the car in the 'on' position there is a rapid clicking from under the IM and the air pump is freaking out as well. I've searched and found a thread with similar problems but the OP never replied back if they fixed it. I'm thinking it's fuel related but I'm not sure where to start..

Here's the vid of the noises:

bump

It has a nice beat to it. It might be the idle air control valve, but I don't think that is causing the problem.

No remember the is not running. Nobody has a clue as to why it won't start up? You can push start but it runs really rough.

+1 idle speed control. test it out page #F-83 in the FSM.

A bad ISC will make it not start? This is his friend, I've changed the ISC in my DSM before because of idle surge, not because it wouldn't start.. Unless the FD has some wierd ass ISC then let me know. Thanks

Edit- Also like I said I searched a little bit on here and found things I think were something like the BAS and AFM? I'm a DSM guy so the abbreviations don't register to me lol. Is the AFM like a Mass Airflow Sensor? What do you think about those being the culprit?

It will push start and it idled rough like it had a ignition miss or fuel starving or blocked cat? i could be out on a limb but if its making that sound with the car in the on position its because the electrical sytem has charged up something that sounds like is stuck open/closed or blocked. If its not starting it might be some kind of relay for the ignition? Like I said im out on a limb, also the sound that its making is almost like a compresion stroke maybe a stuck vacuum sylonoid maybe for the fuel system. Come to think about it my freind had an accord with a clogged cat and it wouldnt start. Good luck

I have a dp and mp so no cats. My starter sounds like crap too when i try to start it, i had it tested and it checked out bad so i bought a new reman and installed it and it didnt change...it sounds like metallic grinding when i try to start it. also when i am trying to start it my rpms bounce up to 4k every time it turns, i also turned on my radio and the speaker in the driver side door doesnt work either so i definately have some wiring problems.

twomucboost4u 01-07-07 06:36 PM

well the metal grinding when you try to start it has to be something not lined up. Check all the tranny bolts and the starter bolts. I had this problem with my eclipses starter it would bind and sieze becaseu the tranny was startin to pull away from the motor so it didnt line up. what had happen was over time because of my pressure plate and they way the slave cylinder was set up one of the tabs for the tranny mount had broke right next to the slave so everytime I pushed in my clutch it was pushing the tranny off of the motor eventually my tranny had to completlly break around the bell housing and pull itself off the motor for me to find out the problem.

I did try to start the car without the clutch pushed in, i got under by the clutch pedal and pushed in the button that would normally be engaged when the clutch is pushed in and it did the same thing...so nothing is pulling away from the tranny.

The fd uses a pull type clutch so when you step on the clutch pedal you are pulling the pessure plate towards the tranny, and not pushing it away.

Thats a weird clicking sound. If the clicking sound always comes on with the key on engine off, the i would pin point the noise first. Make sure your battery is fully charged and the terminals are tight. The i would listen for the noise and find it. If its your injectors clicking you will hear the clicking get louder when you open the throttle. You make have to take off the upper intercooler hose to hear it better. Take off the vac chamber, it will give you a better view of whats underneath the manifold. Does the clicking go away if you put in the stock ecu? If it does, try to start the car with the stock ecu after you unflood the engine.

One time i had a bad pfc cause the car to stall and would only let the car start briefly and then die. It turned out that the pfc would not disengage on of the injectors. But in my case it caused a buzzing noise and not a clicking. But at the same time it did cause the air pump clutch to click like crazy.
