Mystery Dowel Pin Thing

So yep. I took out my LIM and UIM and took off the secondary fuel rail and put new o-rings on and had the injectors sent out to RC and at some point this little dowel pin thing fell out of the LIM. its about 1 Inch long, about as thick as most 10mm studs on the uim. on one end it has a hollow spot about 2mm deep and on the other side is a small rubber cap. i'm stumped. at the time i was removing the ACV also(which is blocked off now) so i have no clue where the hell this thign goes. all i have is my camera phone to take a pic so here's that:

aw come on someone has to have seen this thing before

your link doesn't work, but is sounds like a injector diffuser.

BobfisH 05-14-06 01:51 AM

Ive done two engine rebuilds and never seen anything like that before.

It could be a dowel for some part of the turob control system thats been capped off. Whats the spec of your car? did it definately fall of the LIM or could it be anything?

Check your UIM and LIM for random holes, also check the actuators ontop of the turbos as you could have snagged those ripping something off.

By any chance can you get a better picture? The only part that is throwing me off it the black cap looking thing on top.

Busted7 05-14-06 09:28 PM

it looks like a vacumn nipple with rubber cap on it!

that's what i thought too but its solid and has what looks like a solid piece of brass inside of it. it doesnt seem to be a rubber cap that you can take off either.

iceman4357 05-14-06 11:40 PM

Dude...put your camera in MACRO mode so it will actually some out. from the fuzzy ass picture i think it looks like a nipple as well that you might have cracked off.

GustavOllufsen 05-15-06 12:13 AM

haha its my camera phone's camera i dont think i have a macro mode. its at its highest resolution as it is...sad... I'm sure its not a nipple since its not hollow and the brass piece inside doesnt move in any way so i know its not a valve.

weetbix13 05-15-06 12:34 AM

not one of the wax rods from somewhere?
from leftfield i know... i am dying to know what it is now!

GustavOllufsen 05-15-06 12:50 AM

nah its tiny man. i mean its really about the width of a vac nipple. i had the LIM in my room fresh off the motor. i was taking off the fuel rail and as i was trying to get the damn air bleed sockets otu i tipped it upside down and this little fucker came out of no where. i was also taking off the ACV at the time also as well as everything else on the LIM.

jamespond24 05-15-06 12:59 AM

Check your UIM see if one of the nipple fall off? If not than you got an extra part;)

Rocking Rotary 05-15-06 01:13 AM

I have never seen that thing before.

GustavOllufsen 05-15-06 12:14 PM

o well looks like i'll set thsi thing aside and hope the car doesnt blow up lol

dgeesaman 05-15-06 04:53 PM

It's voodoo. Every time you pinch it, a women screams.

Seriously, I've never seen a separate part like that. Perhaps its' a solenoid plunger that fell off one of the ACV solenoids, or something else that normally doesn't come apart.
