my turn :(

doing a pull tonight to give my fellow local rotary owner some motivation to get his fd back on the road, and ironically........ you guess it. motor dead. :( limped it home eventually, but its definitly only running on one rotor

corey240 05-21-07 10:32 PM

that sucks man sorry to hear about it, you have a nice car.

paradoxbox 05-21-07 10:51 PM

That's rough to hear. But keep your chin up, rebuild it as quickly as you can and enjoy the car when it's ready. Take the opportunity to do the rebuild yourself and with some friends.

adictd2b00st 05-21-07 11:00 PM

having never even opened up a rotary, how qualified would i be to rebuild one? lol i dunno if i'd trust myself to do any work internally on a motor

driFDer 05-22-07 12:21 AM

I feel you man mine is going under the knife this week. Thought it would never happen to me but then I remembered its an fd. I was thinking of doing it myself just no time, so Im having a local shop do it. Shit should have checked the Buffalo area for rotary shops its only an hour from here. Oh well. Good luck put and it back on the road quick.

Jay, let me know what you need, we'll get her back on her feet soon.

Sorry to hear man.

Do you have an idea of what might have went wrong? Maybe running lean, too much boost, poor previous build??

Or was it just a tired engine?

adictd2b00st 05-22-07 09:31 AM

thanks for the link mahjik :)

hmm as for what went wrong......i don't really know. i was doing a 2nd/3rd/4th gear pull..... 2nd and 3rd felt great, got into 4th and it was pulling, but not really feeling as strong , so i let off, and the car wanted to die..... pulled over and it wouldn't hold idle so it just shut off. got out, checked over everything that i could to make sure nothing was loose , unplugged etc..... FINALLY got it running again holding the gas to the floor for about 15 seconds and cranking.... running on one rotor, limped it home since i was only about 3 minutes away.

theres still a slight chance that somthing else went wrong, but at this point my money is on one rotor having no compression, we'll see. its just odd because there was no backfire, bogging etc at all during the pull, just felt "slower" but still smooth?

brent_strong 05-22-07 10:21 AM

So shitty. I'm more than willing to help ya out though, my car is damn near complete, so I'll have time.

Monsterbox 05-22-07 11:05 AM

is this your single turbo FD on that link?

yes :( i had just gotten the bumper fixed, the new rear end in, and the full superpro bushing kit installed too..... talk about terrible timing, summer just started :wallbash:

corey240 05-22-07 04:22 PM

hey man dont be affraid of the build. i never built a motor befor and tor down my sr and rebuilt it in a couple days, that was my first time and i only have some electrical bugs to work out i already had befor. all you need is some time, space, the right tools, and an fsm and or the dvd of how to do it, iv never seen one of thos movies but i imagine it would help alot beter then an fsm which all i had was my grandmas livingroom and an fsm for my car and i got through it.:icon_tup:

Monsterbox 05-22-07 06:05 PM

have you compression tested yet i dont understand how in the WORLD you blew that engine...stage 3 street port with CERAMIC seals

adictd2b00st 05-22-07 06:16 PM

verdict is in..... no compression on the rear rotor..... i did the "poormans" compression test and just pulled a plug out to listen, nothing from the rear, a whole lot from the front.

and i don't understand it either, it was a safe tune, with methanol/water for added saftey AND ceramic seals.....unless i tear this down and find out there really wasn't ceramic seals in it, thats my only idea. it wasn't even a violent death, i expected a huge backfire or SOMTHING

1QWIK7 05-22-07 06:30 PM

Damn sorry to hear again. So what are you gonna do now?

I see you're trying to sell the car. Are you still?

You might save yourself money if you part it out. Because rebuilding the engine again, then selling the car, you wont get your money back.

bryant 05-22-07 06:41 PM

were you not on the meth?
sorry to hear.

adictd2b00st 05-22-07 07:15 PM

the meth was definitly spraying during the pull, and my afr was still in the 11's, i'm really confused.

and about the car selling....... it was for sale, and i got a few offers over winter, almost sold it for 22k but decided against it last minute. kinda kickin myself now, but who woulda thought. i plan on rebuilding it, but not anytime soon. realisticly i'm looking at being able to get a new motor over winter. it'll be another streetport, haven't really decided what seals this time tho. i can't get into debt again just for the sake of driving this car, atleast i still have my daily :(

1QWIK7 05-22-07 07:48 PM

Damn 22k, i def woulda sold it. I mean if i was in your shoes. I wish i can get 22k for my car. But i know i wont plus i promised myself id never sell it so i guess its with me til i die lol.

mono4lamar 05-22-07 08:11 PM

Dude that sucks! On another note, I found out why xander blew his motor! I sent out all the injectors to Kg to check out the primaries and low an behold one of the 1680's was only pumpin 9--cc! Kind of a fucked up world we live in... I'm happy I never did any real hard pulls on the car or I would have had a thread before yah...

You better hope the ceramics are still intact, cause when they blow the take everything in their path...

yea but to me, i know i woulda just bought somthing else and ended dumping money into it again, so i figured why get rid of a car i've already put so much time and money into. ah well, what can i do now, right? can't go back lol

mono4lamar, thats pretty crazy.... to think thats what caused it. he kept thinking it was a coolant related problem ,but an injector only flowing that much will DEFINITLY cause some problems!

paradoxbox 06-01-07 09:08 PM

DUDE!

CHIN UP!

You do NOT want to sell your car, your car blew the engine, big deal, you fix that bad boy up and you're golden. You will kick your own ass for this talk of selling it. Keep your chin up, get cracking on that rebuild as soon as you can. Take the opportunity to do some rotor coating if you can. You will get through this!
