MY REX TOTALED - L Shaped :tear:

3/7/04 4:00PM. - 1993 silver touring is no more - Long read if you want -

I was traveling south bound on the Pasadena Frw. and all lanes were stopped because of a major accident farther south. I followed to cars up the on ramp (Ave 64) to exit the freeway. (If anyone is familiar with this freeway, it was the first freeway built in California. On-ramps consist of a stop sign with a short merging area ( 20 to 60 feet ) before you are actually on a 3 lane freeway.) There is no on-ramp only an off-ramp at this section of freeway. The two cars ahead of me continued straight up to Figureroa. I went right. Right is a 2 lane road proceeding to a small bridge in about 75 yards which goes over the freeway. The bridge is one lane east (my direction) and one lane west. The curbs are prox 20" tall then a small sidewalk 3 ½ feet wide and then a 4 foot guard rail to keep cars from landing on the freeway below. I was traveling east at around 30 mph half way over the short bridge and a white van was coming west in my direction. Well guess what? Low and behold a white car (I think it was a Toyota Camry) following the van decides to pass the van in my lane. He didn't see me. I turn hard to the left to get out of his way and to avoid a major head on accident and the van he was passing t-boned my passenger door. The van pushed all the way to my center consol folding my RX7 into an L shape. My eye brow made love to my steering wheel ( I had 4 stitches put in ), I scraped glass out of my right ear and neck for 5 minutes. One piece missed my juggler vein by less than ½ a centimeter. That would have made a nice red spurting stream. ( Anyone who has ever seen an artery cut knows what I mean ) Thank GOD that I didn't have a passenger with me because their torso would have detached and been on my lap. Guess what - THE Mother FCKER who cause this is long gone. He kept going. The van driver who t-boned me got out of the van to help me out of the car. The first thing I said was DID YOU GET HIS LICENCE PLATE NUMBER. The van driver said that he never saw the other car and his passengers didn't either. They only saw me pitch my rex sideways in front of them.
Well The rex did its job, I am ok. The van was transporting two juvenile delinquents both of which are claiming back pains. GO Figure that out. My car is a total. Insurance will give me $17,000 for it with a buy back of $2800. ( Custom front mount intercooler, Custom Radiator, 2 oil coolers, RX-6 turbo manifold and probably screwed up turbo ( turbo was pushed into the lower intake manifold (HARD) by the shock tower), broken exhaust manifold bolts, probably fcked up rotor housings, rebuilt trans, front suspension components and tires, drive shaft, rear suspension components - ALL FCKED UP "BENT."- Not worth buying back for $2800. I guess I am lucky, It would have been re-painted in 3 weeks with all new suspension components installed.
List of Kills - 1 GT-2 Porsche, numerous 911s and turbos, 3 vipers, 2 ZO6s, too may Cameros , Vets and Mustangs to list. I am still pissed. I didn't take any digital pictures TOO DEPRESSING. So I am venting myself. I don't feel any better but I am alive. I guess I can't complain.

Sorry about your loss, but just be glad that your ok!

areXseven 03-22-04 09:38 PM

Glad you were able to walk away from this one. Sounds like it was a pretty scary ordeal for you. Hope you have UM/UIM (uninsured/under-insured) insurance to cover any tangible/intangible damages the "at fault" hit and run driver has caused you. If so, make a BI (bodily injury) claim and settle with your insurance after you've reached MMI (maximum medical improvement). Use your PIP (personal injury protection) benefits, if any, to help you pay for some of your medical charges. Use the settlement funds to get you into another FD. Good Luck!!

damn dude. that really sucks. glad you walked away though. dont worry, there are always more cars out there, but you only live once.

80-CU.IN.T 03-22-04 09:50 PM

I am covered Thanks. I would like to get into another FD but I am tied up for the next few months restoring an AC ACE. I have to make everything. Window crank assemblies from scratch ect. Good 6 month project for me atleast. Fathers car and its been in parts for 18 years. Many peices stolen. I want him to be able to drive it before he dies. 70 years old now.
Thanks for the responces I just need to vent. I guess I will be driving my base toyota tacoma for quite a while.

And hey, just think of all the useless acronyms you'll know when you're done with this! :D

Sorry, couldn't miss that opportunity. Sorry about the loss, I hate to see a car destroyed, but just be thankful you're ok.

They're only useless when you don't need them. They do come in handy once in a while :)

I never saw the full car, but liked what I saw of the car from the posts you've made about it in the past. The thing I liked most about it was it had alot of fabrication in it, and alot of good parts. Sorry to hear about what happened but you live to fight another day, and it's times like these you realize that yeah the car was important, but your life is MORE important..

mini-x 03-22-04 10:22 PM

glad that your safe bro. thats a horrifying image bro

maxcooper 03-22-04 10:29 PM

Man, that sucks. I'm very sorry to hear about your car, but I'm glad your injuries were not too severe.

I'm not familiar with that exit, but if you've got the time, it may be worth checking into stills or video from surveillance cameras in the area. Whether public or private, perhaps someone has footage of the white car. I've seen less likely footage on the news plenty of times...

Enconsiderate 03-22-04 10:54 PM

YOU WALKED AWAY. That is the important part. I'm glad to hear your okay. I know accidents are a scarry thing! I have been in 8 accidents here in So. Cal. 1 of which was my fault when I was 16 (minor fendor bender), 1 of which was caused by another male driver in a Escalade, and 6 caused by female drivers. I'm not saying anything about female drivers but...

Hey at least you can buy another FD. Thank the all mighty himself that you were alone in your car and that you can still walk.

Glad to hear your okay and your FD is in a better place, a place where apex seals last forever and a o-ring replacement is never heard of or needed!

LOSTinWANKELS 03-22-04 11:47 PM

as much as it sucks to c a beautiful fd wrecked in the end its only a car and its replaceable.....a human life is not...glad your ok

rynberg 03-22-04 11:56 PM

Very sorry to hear about your accident. Glad that you are pretty much ok. Good luck with the AC restoration and hope to see you in another FD in the future!

fd3s_rx7 03-23-04 01:02 AM

As of what everybody says, you walked away and that's the most important part. You will find another FD as long as you are still alive.

r1dreamer 03-23-04 01:12 AM

sorry to hear about the accident, glad you walked away...it happened to me on dec 17th. everything happens for a reason, and it will all work out in the end. hey i bought a new rx with a blown motor, dropped my old motor in and painted it titanuim grey metallic. plus i made money on it.

once again sorry to hear about it, but i know that you'll be happier once all said and done.

good luck

Daniel577h 03-23-04 01:15 AM

main thing is your ok, you can replace the car

bus 03-23-04 01:22 AM

First of all Glad your okay and Hope they get the dumbass who caused the accident.

SNracing 03-23-04 01:40 AM

my question is: how did the driver of the van and his passengers not even see this car? if the car was trying to pass him, he should of seen it at some point, either behind him, or after it passed the van.

good to hear that you didnt get hurt.

adam c 03-23-04 02:09 AM

Glad to hear that you are OK. Sorry about your car. Sounds like you put a lot of work into it.

This may sound kind strange, but its refreshing to hear about a totalled FD that wasn't caused by the driver doing something stupid.

Riccardo 03-23-04 02:45 AM

The most important thing is you are OK!
Other than that there is very little to say, as facts speak for themselves...all I can say is I hope you get an excellent FD up & running on the road ASAP

LAMEtHIng 03-23-04 10:22 AM

Bummer man, glad you are okay. There will always be another day for an rx7, but that isn't always true for us humans. :( Nice kills too, btw
