You need to find out where the sound is coming from...

Start with the driveshaft..

I agree, sounds need locating.

Put the car on rear stands to lift the ass, start car, engage the handbrake and try to slightly release the clutch while someone is underneath listening to the sound. Also try to do the same while not locking rear wheels with handbrake.
Also, can you reproduce the noise just by leaving the car off in neutral, and turning the driveshaft?
My money is on the diff though.

Be careful either way, if its on it way to die, you dont want the housing to go with it. A diff is way cheaper when bought out of the pumikin.

Doh, use your brains to figure this problem.

First jackup the rear and do a visual inspection:
(1) drive shaft
(2) diff housing
(3) axle shafts

With you hands, shake and move the pieces around to find looseness or hear noise.

Put trans in fist gear and let the wheels spin while listening and looking.

So far I only hear Beavus and Butthead in the background.
