My new FD, i have some questions..
 

Hey guys, i put a deposit on a 92' JDM Seven.

Has 56 000km's on the body and engine, it hasn't had a rebuild yet.
He said he got it all checked out in Japan, and compression and boost came out perfect.

Im wondering, can i take it to any car shop and get the 7 tested for boost and compression, or does it have to be rotary specific shop?

And what exactly are the numbers for a well compressed engine?

And well this question isn't all that important, im just curious--- are the stock BOV's loud?

You're a brave one, buying a car in Japan and then having it shipped over here. A rotary engine specialist will have to check the compression and you should be concerned about any possible leak in the cooling system or the coolant seals in the engine.

car looks good.I wouldnt worry about the BOV.And no they arent loud.

1. The seller said the boost and compression were perfect (of course they are!) but didn't provide numbers.

2. You need to take the car to a rotary shop, although a Mazda dealer can do the compression check. Boost pattern can be done on your own -- READ THE FAQ.

4. The stock setup is to route the BOV to the intake box, which makes it nearly inaudible. Venting the stock BOV is quite loud.

Hope you can get it titled/registered for road use.

ok thanks guys, any more things i need to check or know? I didn't buy it, i put a deposit on it, only 500 buks, and if anything is wrong with the car i get the deposit back.. Im not quite that brave JConn2299, haha.

Good for you then. That's the right way to do it. The way I read your post it sounded like a done deal to me.

That isn't a problem up here in the 'frigid north' of Canada, especially in Alberta. As long as the car passes an Out of Province Inspection (only required if car hasn't been registered in the province before) it is completely registrable and insurable. Although common problems with imported vehicles is worn brake rotors/pads, lack of DRLs, realignment of headlights.

It might just be me, but it looks like it's been repainted. I'm not sure what it is... maybe the tone of the paint? Or the fact that it doesn't have any blemishes? It's a 15 year old car, but that paint looks fresh. That and it's missing the "RX-7" emblems above the Efini badge.

Yea it was re-painted from red to white. The car had a bit of a fender bender in the front, but is all good now. I know that its possible something is wrong, but it will be checked, and if all goes well, then why not. It said that it only had to change the front fender, and it was painted before the fender bender.

But, has anyone ever imported with Tyeeimports.com ?

also i can get a 2 year warranty with tyeeimports, covering all mechanical, engine, turbos, drivetrain, etc. Pretty much anything but cosmetic. And that sounds like a sweet deal. All i have to do is send in that i had my oil changed every 2-3k.

make sure to read the fine print on that warranty.

yea for sure, they only claim up to 1500 per claim. but thats better then nothing.

But has any one imported with tyeeimports? or know anyone, i searched them and they seem to be fine. Im getting him to send me the compression tests from the shop in japan, as well boost, and boost pattern, and anything more the shop knows, just so i have a idea on the health of the engine before i get a plane ticket and fly to grab the car.

Any other precautions i should take?

it was a Grade "B" so to what i understand thats quite good for a 2nd hand car, especially a 15 yr old car.

from what I could read on the Auction Sheet for your car, the exterior grade is a R and the interior is a B

Exterior Grades are between 5.0 and 0.0/A/B/X

The car has a minor scratch on the front bumper, and dents above/around each wheel well.

As for driving the vehicle back from BC to Alberta, make sure you have a valid Temporary Operator's Permit and a In Transit sticker. For both of these you require specific dates (from 3-7 days) and you will also need to arrange for temporary insurance from your insurance company. And the vehicle must also pass a Out of Province Inspection (OOP) before it is registrable, which must be completed in the province you wish to register the car in.
So look into shops around Calgary that do OOPs. Also be prepared to pay for new brakes (Mazda charges about $160 for a pair of rear OEM brake rotors), new headlight assemblies (which Mazda charges about $180 each for), new daytime running lights, and labour for the installation of the parts. Oh, and most shops charge around $100 to inspect a vehicle.

And I havn't heard anything about TyeeImports as I deal exclusively with Import Concern based out of Calgary and Edmonton. Which makes it a hell of a lot easier for me cause they arrange shipping for the vehicles from Vancouver to Alberta for around $400.
