Did you get my PM?!?!
|
i will answer you on here, there are many different preperation techniques and all vary from metal to metal
like i said in the above post, powder is cheap...experiment with different kinds until you find one you're comfortable with or a finish you like the equipment is cheap, you do not need a booth |
93blackfd,
Do you use a thick or thin coat of powder on the metal? Any reason why? I was thinking about buying the video guide from eastwood on powdercoating to see if I can pick up any tips to make the finish smoother. Also, where did you get the lamp/infared setup for $70? |
ye, please talk more about the propane lamp... i dont follow
|
you buy a propane tank, and you buy a propane powered infrared heater from wal mart ($39)
i made a hose adapter so that the lamp can be 5ft away from the tank, and then clamped the lamp to a dolly with a stick on it i roll it around the part, you're essentially making one of these: http://www.columbiacoatings.com/imag...ont%20View.jpg which they sell for $300  if you think a video will help, buy it |
whats better? the over or the propane getup ?
|
Where do you get an infrared lamp? I went out and got a cheap electric stove to use witht he podercoating gun I got from Harbor Freight. I still need to run the 220 volts to the garage though. :( Do you just aim the lamp at the parts and wit for them to look shiny? Any other pointers on coting your first parts?
|
it's not that hard, try it and then ask questions, the propane is better IMO, more control
i got the lamp at walmart, it's made by "reddy heater" |
here's a vid of a part curing with this setup
