My headache..er..Rx7.

Waddup guys.I post on here rarely, mainly for help. But i figured i'd get more involved with this fourm so i figured i'd post the story of my FD. 5 Month Recap, I purchased a 93 RX7 for $6,000 That needed quite a bit of work. Although the pics might not do justice on work needed, trust me, it was a headache..

Before:

Since then me and my Father have redone the entire interior, Started bodywork on the exterior, Powdercoated stock rims, Installed a new Boost timer, Gauges, Etc. Installed a new sound system, As well as other little goodies under the hood. Unfortunately it is still not ready for the road. :(.. But here are some pics of the current condition of her.

Car still needs to be repainted, More bodywork needs to be done. The car doesnt like to start when hot, and we are investigating that problem now. Seats need to be put back in. Car idles kinda rough and we need to figure out why. Other modifications such as a new downpipe/midpipe. New intercooler, and other Reliability mods will be getting done shortly.

I'll try and keep thins updated as best i can.

Headache or not, if you got a running FD for $6k, you got one hell of a fucking deal.

Great progress on the project :).

One point of constructive criticism and one comment:

You might want to consider an aluminum anodized mesh for the front bumper openings, will look more stealthy and oem.

Also, hot start and idling rough can be signs of engine trouble.....once warmed up, what is the idle rpm and what is the vacuum on your boost gauge?

Yea couldn't agree more. Plus i am only 17 years old and this is more or less me and my fathers project car. That fact that its a rotary and that i personally know nothing about them other then the things i learn day by day working on it i think are what give me the headaches. :P

I'll definitely keep the Aluminum Mesh idea in mind for the front bumber.

As far as the readings, its 12:37 over here on the east coast, so i will get you the idle rpm and other stuff tomorrow for you. :icon_tup:

I think you and your dad might just have to learn how to rebuild a rotary soon i think that engine is bad. Sorry man I went through it to I think most of us have. Its a great car though good work.

Yea i know what your saying. We were told that it was rebuilt and has about 60,000 miles on the rebuilt engine. But me and my father do have our doubts and more likely then none once the car is on the road and more money is going towards maintaining it rather then fixing it, rebuilding the rotary is more then likely in the picture.

Haha the Sub box me and my father originally just winged it and it ended up coming out better then both of us expected. It was so frustrating making a sub box under that bar in the trunk.

idle rpm and what is the vacuum on your boost gauge?

got those readings yet?

rash_rvg 08-06-07 06:26 AM

rough idle can be due to the Air-pump removal.... didn't see a PFC commander there so...

xxmicrozxx 08-06-07 01:30 PM

Found out that the solenoid was my problem with the car not starting when hot.

The car idles at around 1200 once its at high temperature. The vacuum gauge is only reading about 10, which i read is pretty low?

Hitokiri_Gensai 08-06-07 05:38 PM

i love the rims, how much did it cost to get them powder coated?

xxmicrozxx 08-06-07 06:11 PM

My Uncle works at Patina Auto over here in New York, and he knew someone who i could get them done with. I got them extremely cheap. It was like $45 a rim.
