my general knowlege thread

So.... there are a few things that i have been thinking about and things that i wanted to know. So i figured that i would start here and see what people think or have to offer so i can learn more.

I just pulled the motor and street ported it and did a typical rebuild. I am good friends with dale clark if any of you know him and follow his advice to the tee because he seems to know what he is talking about ha.

But just so i can see for now what other people think about all of this. What is the typical break in period for a new motor and also what are the recommended oil change periods and also rpm/boost patterns that should be followed?

This is just one of the many things that i will be asking, just thought that i should start here.

do a search in the 3rd gen for "break in" there's about 30 pages to read.

500-1000 miles is more than enough, stay off boost the whole is time is good for the engine also.. as for changing oils.. up to you I guess... If I were to break in an engine for 1000 miles, i'd change the oil twice, maybe 3 times? My opinion... What information were you givin?

Hopefully, it will be the last question you ask that is already covered in dozens of threads.

Thank you for all of your wonderful information..... NOT

Anyway, i have been breaking it in to about 500 with no boost and then after that adding boost slowly. Then at 1000 driving like normal. So i guess i should go and search now....

rx-sleven,

Every builder will have their own "break-in guidelines" so there really isn't "one way" to do it. Even that changes depending on what parts are new in the build and which ones are reused.

On that note, I have yet to hear of someone's motor failing because they didn't follow a "proper" break-in procedure. ;)

Thanks for the info both of you. I was just wondering what other peoples suggestions were. But, i have heard that the longer you break the motor in the better it is in the long run. Anyway, i have all new apex seals and half of the side seals are new. All the other stuff is old or reused.
