My Fds Flaws
alright my car only has almost 33k miles on it. and this is what it looks like.. sad sad.

That does not look like a 33k mile car. Those seats in particular look like they have 100k+ miles on them. A 33k car should look very close to new. Are you sure the cluster was not switched?

NOPE my dad has owned it since new. also take into consideration it has NEVER been garaged. as you cant see in these pictures but there are more high end cars that get those two spots. i think it might have been garaged for maybe 1 month of its life.

What is that hideous yellow thing on your steering wheel?
It's only a start, but you can order a nice new leather shift boot from redline goods here on the forum. They advertise, and if you are patient you'll see their banner at the top of the page after 10 or 20 pages of surfing. |
um that thing is to stop my steering wheel from melting during the summer. my sisters melted :P.

its just a steering wheel cover i can take it off anytime i want but i live in vegas and the heat cooks the steering wheels. so i put that so i dont 1. burn my hands 2. have the steering wheel melt like it did in my sisters car. 3. to keep the steering wheel in the condition it is in right now.

goddamn...the scion xb is considered a high end car? :rlaugh: jk jk

ONLY 33k miles????
mann.....just be glad that this car's drivetrain and engin is pretty new!! most RX7s on this forum have crazy high milage, mine has 124k miles on the chassis and 2 rebuilted motor. at least you mainly have to worry about the cosmetics , which you're gonna change eventually.... seats, shiftboot, wide bodykits... hehe *cheers to daddy !! |
so its a little dinged up
dont let cosmetic issues bother you if it runs fine and drives straight, its good. |
thats the thing before i blew the motor it was running amazing then iblew the motor not knowing how to maintain it. and my dad made it get rebuilt by a non rotary shop *never seen a rotary before* and basicly ive had problems esciltaing from there. and i have a problem right now too. turbos arent boosting to full potential for any gears and the engine higher rpms have no power any ideas?
i wanted it rebuilt by mazdatrix or some rotary shop but my dad wanted me to learn it and basicly screwed the rebuild up cause they didnt know what the fuck they were doing. |

Here's a link. First rate products BTW^. Stock wheels are fairly inexpensive as well. And who told you they'd have to drill your quarter-panel for those dents? The pictures are small, but they shouldn't require drilling the sheetmetal. |
i took it to a dent guy and he looked at it and there is a double wall so you cant hammer them out. the front fenders are not double only the back fenders. ill try and get a better picture of dents.

I know that you said that you actually know the milage of this car because your dad has owned since new. I'm sorry bro but I'm not buying it. I've never seen that much wear and tear from the sun alone (not garaged).
Shifter boost torn at the seams from usage. Besides sun damage on the shifter? You know due to the roof the shifter is exposed minimally to the sun. https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a6...17-06_1430.jpg All of those wringles are also obvious signs of lots of usage.. .sun damage would be uniform. https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a6...17-06_1429.jpg |

you can search vin if you want...
|
Forget the 7, drive the Fn Ferrari!
|
jm1fd3319p0206979 is the VIN
|
you also need to take into consideration vegas sun isnt like your type of sun. its very very hot and get over 105 during summer this summer it hit 116. and the car was parked in direct sunlight. i remember when my dad bought this car and i remember him getting in two accidents one hit and run hit the front fender and the other was just a small accident someone accidently rear ended my dad but didnt do much damaged but was fixed. and the hit and run guy was never caught.
|
just keep in mind that its harder for a daily driven reliable RX7 that runs right to come by than a cosmetically decked out FD that the driver can't even floor the gas pedal
treasure what you got. its a diamond in the rough |

Heat will really mess up upholstery and paint. Vegas heat is extreme during the summer. I'm not surprised the leather is in bad shape. You dad should have taken better care of the car. Hopefully he did regular maintenance. Given the condition of the interior & exterior, I would expect that he didn't.
Too bad he didn't give a shit about the car :(. |

good point. i don't think the sun has anything to do w/ the wear on this car. the paint still looks good. looks like the main flaws are the driverseat, shift boot, and all the little dings (which i also have from assholes that parks next to me) the seat wear just the driver getting in and out of the car A LOT (or heavy in weight =P) shift boot, jaming into the first and second gear A LOT the car is a 1993, aside from those 3 flaws, the car looks great! i've seen far far worse condition FDs out there. like i mentioned earlier just get new shift boot, racing seats, and save up for bodykit + fenders or the fender dings patched up and u have a head turner. word of advice tho, get some autocross or track experience before u race some chump on the streets. although rx7 handles well, a noob can easily push the limits too far and spin out |

mileage is not always an indicator of wear. There are many low mileage cars out there (not looking solely at FD's) that are pretty beat up and still have super low miles. This FD is 11+ years old, a lot of stuff can happen to a car in 11 years without it even being driven. ESPECIALLY if it has never been garaged. Either way its kind of pointless to argue with him about the car , its not like he's trying to sell it or something, what does he have to lie about? seriously guys, lay off a little :tonque:.
|
and all to the thanks of blue magic my car isnt as bad in paint fade as it used to be. ill take some pictures of the fading later cause i was kind of trying to not show my fading paint. im thinking about just getting dents filled and getting the car painted.
|
Most quality modern paints can deal with the UV. Interiors don't. And I believe a car that has sat outside for a dozen summers, especially in desert heat, could look like that, even if low mileage.
But on the dent issue....I'll qualify this because I can't see the the car up close, but drilling the sheet metal and pulling those out would be my last resort. The sheet metal is already been stretched once. |
Pm me with your address and I'll send you my old shift boot for free. It's not ripped and is in decent shape.

hey ill take u up on that..i need a new shift boot badddd |
I hope he takes better care of the Ferraris
|
I would find a new paintless dent guy asap. You should be able to get each fender fixed for $100 bucks or so. At this point I would worry more about getting it running right. Doesnt matter how good it looks if it is a lawn ornament.
|
All I can say is that what you have at the moment is a great place to start but if dad is well of and generous I would say take it to a rotary shop, a known one and let them sort everything out.
Aka you get your car to Gotham Racing and tell them I want this plane it back to LV and wait. If you don't know anything about rotaries I tell you it is gonna take awhile to play catchup. Also you need a place to work on an FD and you don't exactly do engine swaps in the front yard. So you need either #1 garage and skills or money and phone numbers. |
