My FD in Japan
So about a 2years ago I bought my beautiful girl. 93 rx7 "Roxanne"
I'm getting ready to leave Japan this upcoming November and I really want to take it with me but I have no info on getting it over to the states through any import biz. Reason why I haven't really made any real costly mods to it. Any help with this info would be greatly appreciated. |
google even had its own search line for it, and had it plotted for me by the time i had written
"how to import JDM" http://www.google.no/#hl=no&cp=17&gs...w=1440&bih=797 |
RHD FDs are not eligible for import to the US. Sorry.

I may be reading this list wrong, but according here, FD's up to 1995 are eligible.
Once again, I may be reading this wrong, it might be Canada only, so give it good reading through. http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/elig100111.pdf |
Insert "Not this Sh-t Again" Picard jpg.

Unless you convert it to LHD, you can't take it home. Even if you did it would take thousands and thousands to get it converted by an RI.
If you take the engine out you can get it through customs, but this is technically illegal... You will never, ever be able to register it to drive in the US. At least not for another six years. The end. |
Actually I think it is saying it's eligible, just to make sure I'm going to take this over to our legal guys..... Thanks bro

I'm pretty sure it isn't eligible until it is 25 years or older. Importing gets brought up almost weekly. A quick search should reveal everything you need to know
|
Threads on importing JDM cars pop up at least once a week. The LEGAL answer is no. There are ways around it of course, but they're not legal, and the DOT can seize and crush your car.
Smart approach? Load up with cheap JDM parts, ship them with you back to the US, and have fun building a new LHD FD. Dale |
I know a guy who can get em in pretty cheap, he does it all the time, skylines, supra, rx7's rhd s2000's and anything you want. heres a pic of a skyline he imported a few years back.

ONLY THE LHD CARS ARE ELIGIBLE. Read the entire document... |
When I first joined the forum a couple of months ago I saw one of these threads and thought that they didnt come up as much as you guys said. I was wrong they really do come up about one a week. Ive come to enjoy them, the star trek vids and fast and the furious comment always make me laugh.

Florida will register just about any car, regardless of how fraudulently it was imported.
The southern states aren't so big on registration restrictions because there are so many rich old farts with kit cars and choppers, that throw enough money at politicians to make sure they can keep their less-than-legal rides on the road. |
Alabama is another state it can be done in, i've seen Skylines, rhd fd's, Cosmo's, civic's, integra's silvia's all the time, hell ive even seen a rhd honda station wagon lol
|
Guess dis boy gon get good n cozy in da south...lol
|
I wanna move to the south now lol
|
Yes.... the northeast has laws, taxs, and tolls. It's pretty rediculous.
Personally, I would still buy a LHD FD. Why spend time, money and sweat on a car that you always have to worry about registering? Not to mention RHD would be annoying to drive. Call me an old dog, but I wouldn't want to switch now. I would do as others have said, load up on parts, and let it rain on a proper LHD FD ;) |
So as soon as it reach 25 yrs i can import one? That means it will have historial plate?
I dont think ny allows any kind of RHD cars ... but i seen one skyline and a evo 6 couple years ago |
Where you moving to?
Sell the Japan FD, load up on some super rare parts for dirt cheap and ship them back with you. Then buy an FD that will have no problems getting registered I got a nice bone stock VR Touring with 55k miles that needs a new owner. Its not posted in the classifieds cause im not in a real big hurry to sell, especially cause I only drive one every two weeks now |
