is my engine on its way out?

ok so here is the low down.......

i had boost problems for a week or two until i found a popped off vacume pipe. after that it was fine for a few days, then i got an exhaust leak. it was actually the flex pipe i had installed( it had melted from the inside and it was restricting the exhaust.

any who i took that thing off and put a straight 3 inch pipe there....NOW i would get immense boost spike....upto 19 psi. i was getting fed up by now and just let the car sit for a week. then i took her out one night...the spike was gone but the car feels shit slow. i get 10 psi but that KICK is gone. there is alot of bucking and backfiring now too! the idle has gone down to 600 and i had already opened the bleed screw quite alot from before. BUT there is no noticeable smoke...

oh and my car is pretty much stock..just a 3 inch sraight exhaust with a baffle in between, and intakes.

you know why you would get boost spike?

because you didn't do your homework on this car

you CAN'T put a straight exhaust on this car on the STOCK ECU. the ecu is only tuned to provide enough fuel for 10 psi of boost, now when you remove the restrictive stock exhaust, which is restrictive for a reason, the stock wastegates on the turbos cannot bypass enough exhaust to maintain 10 psi of boost so what you get is BOOST SPIKE. so you'll be running your 19 psi of boost but the ecu will only be providing enough fuel for 10 psi.

this is a MAP based ecu, read before you do upgrades to your car. most likely you detonated and are losing compression now.

and no your engine isn't on it's way out; it's probably done.

yes i do know exactly why i get spikes....but this dosnt happen all the time, it stays at a steady ten mostly. as far as compression is concearned the vacume reads 19...im guessing thats a good sign! and when the car feels like it and eveything starts to work...the car is as fast as it ever was. these damn rotaries are just so moody is pissing off!

i was guessing signs of a blown engine would be smoke, bad vacum, car being significantly slower all the time! any other signs i shoulg look out for?

get a compression test done

but seriously, don't boost the car until you either put the stock cats back on or get a new ECU

just because you don't have an ungodly amount of smoke coming from the engine doesn't mean there isn't engine damage

how is the idle? lumpy? rough?
