Is my chassis bent?

Ever since I brought my FD, the front passenger wheel has been set further in than the drivers wheel. Its about 3 inches further in for comparison.

Is it likely to be the bodywork that is out?
Or some adjustment needed in the suspension?
Or is it the whole car twisted from an accident or something?
In the pics the car has FEED fenders, but prior to installing these, she had stock fenders & the problem was the same.. any suggestions of what to check/measure would be great. :)

If I take the wheel off - Nothing looks obviously buckled behind it, although I am far from an expert when it comes to setting up suspension. So its very possible I have missed something.

Both the wheels are the same widths & offsets.

Here is some pics:

Have you ever had it aligned?

Ceylon 09-19-09 07:50 AM

Thanks for the reply,

Not since I have owned the car no, I was waiting till my new wheels arrived - Not sure if it has been done prior to that.

Could alignment make as much difference as 2.5-3"?

If that is the problem then thats a lot less for the body shop to do when she gets resprayed :D

Thanks!

Tom.

It looks like you have way too much camber on one side. Do you notice uneven tire wear (i.e. the inner half wears much faster than the outer half) on the side where the wheel looks to be in by 3"?

Ceylon 09-19-09 08:49 AM

The tires are worn fairly evenly on the front. Bare in mind, the car has just been dropped off jacks - So its hard to judge the camber from those pics. But I do think I could use some more neg camber.

Is it worth waiting for my new rims to arrive before taking it in for adjustment?
Or does it not make much difference?

Cheers

You can align it now.

Thanks.

Due to the fact that the hood-fender reveals are out, and you said even with stock fenders this was still the case, either the hood is not straight, or the car was in a front end where the frame legs up front got moved one direction. If this was the case they were probably straightened, but as the reveals show, not that well. Have you inspected the front frame legs near where the radiator is?

The fenders are not attached perfectly - It was a quick job so that I could drive it, they need fitting properly when she goes into the body shop. With stock fenders they line up fine :). The Odula bonnet is a pretty poor fit too...Luckily its only temporary. :)

I cant recall seeing anything out of shape around that area - But I will check there tomorrow when its light just incase!

Thanks!

Hubs are another thing to check. I've seen some wheels be off due to a hard it to the wheel (such has hitting a curb, etc.) that have bent the hub and caused the wheel to be off.

Here is diagram that you might find helpful.

The camber adjuster is'nt seated properly. Have someone align it that knows what they are doing.
