MSD vs. HKS twin power
When running a high boost, what is the best to buy to control your ignition? An MSD setup (and what part numbers... please), or the HKS twin power and harness?
Thanks guys.. |
get the hks... its just easier... rotary specific and all that... plugs right in
|
has anyone done a close look at the two of these to see what all you would need to buy for an MSD system and price it all out. the HKS is pretty straight foreward. I don't need straight foreward if the MSD will work as well for less money.
I was thinking of just going HKS but my friend is pushing me to go MSD since his non rotary stuff has MSD who can tell me more? |
i will prbably go with hks twin power
Just curois...what boost are u runnign? what turbo..etc..? the reason for the question is cause i am breaking up slightly up top above 6500 rpms at 15psi on the stockers...i am hoping the hks will fix |
15 PSI on stockers?!? You should try 14 unless you have the cooling problem under control and an aftermarket fuel system/computer.

msd 6a all the way! 160 brand new, instalation is easy(if you need instructions pm me). one unit will only fire on the leading, but that is where it is most needed as the trailing are mostly for cleanup. i have no dyno numbers , but i can tell you that throttle responce is much crisper and the car pulls stronger up top. also a lot of people use the msd with stock coils and no problems. search the single turbo forum for more opinions. if you like paying more for the hk$ name and are afraid to splice a couple wires, well to each their own.-garrett

check your lead coil w a multimeter. chances are the coil isn't yr problem. rx7s run fine at 17 psi w stock ignition. (they also run better w more ignition). chances are it is plugs, plug wires, or a fuel filter.

so the msd 6a will take care of all my ignition/timing problems (spark retard)? Sounds like a winner to me. $160 vs. $500. hmm. Anywhere with a write-up on how to install it on an fd?
|
neither the 6a or the hks are going to fix any timing problems, they simply provide a hotter spark to the coils. like howard said check all the ignition components and change the fuel filter if it hasn't been done for awhile.
