Motor mounts, solid or semi-solid?
Since I'm gettin a new motor in, i wanted to change the mounts along. What do you all think of solid motor mounts from your experience? I know semi-solid would be no problem but the cost of them are killing me. My FD is daily driver and I'll be installing maz reman in it.

What is semi-solid? Do you mean Urethane? I have urethane mounts and love them, I highly recommend them. You feel a little more vibration up to 2000rpm's but after that it is baby smooth. I can't comment on solid mounts, but personally I think they are over-kill.

Unless you are building a pure race car, just go with the stock mounts.

=) well then, stock mount it is!

stock mounts and an engine torque brace from Garfinkle to take all the load.
howard coleman |
I had a friend with a torque brace and it was considerably more harsh than my urethane motor mounts. Granted, it wasn't a garfinkle brace. Gotham has some urethane mounts that are cheaper than stockers.

howard coleman on side note, I also have stock mounts with Garfinkle brace.. cost is $125 or so after all the shipping.. as soon as I got it on, I acturally noticed the difference.. There were few threads about this.... some say i had bad mounts etc.. but thing is, it did make a difference.. and hold me by until i get a new engine put in.. |

Yup, they require your core...but they built my engine so it wasn't a problem.
These motor mounts are an excellent, bolt-on replacement for the failure-prone OEM mounts. They are constructed out of tough polyurethane, which ensures longevity and durability. Engine movement is greatly reduced, thereby improving response, shifting accuracy, and overall driveline integrity. All necessary installation hardware is included, and a core exchange is required. |
how much was it approximately?? I do have spare engine mounts.. I think 2 sets..

I have the Gotham Urethane Mounts as well....I freakin' love them!! Makes the FD muuuch more fun to drive, kinda' hard to explain but the car feels like one now, very responsive and the engine even started sounding a bit more throaty under WOT.

i got a set of solid aluminum ones from Dragon on the other board for around $100. totally changes the entire feel of the car. i know many people say that they are only for a pure race car, but many have also never felt them. if you can't handle a little more noise and vibration, i wouldn't reccomend it. it's kinda fun to feel your car shake when the rpm's bounce around at idle :)
if you're not really into racing much, then i'd agree on the stock mounts or urethane, but if you drag race, the solid ones are quite nice |
I have soild ones on my car, can't comment on how they feel as I have yet to start my car, waiting on ECU.
