Motor is Blown

Damn, front rotor only read 50 on the compression check. No surprise though, I was sure it was gone when it happened.

So, even though I saved up for crap like this, if I can get all active members to send me ONE us dollar, yup, just one even if it's change you find in the walmart parking lot this weeked, it should take care of most of my costs. In return, I will give you all a big internet hug.

I'm out for 3-4 weeks for a rebuild. I guess I'll have to either drive my old truck, or my wife's slow ass GTP to work. :rlaugh:

Question though, Malloy Mazad installed the reman-motor, Steve Kan at Gothom tuned it.....it has 26k on the motor with minimal upgrades, just reliability mods basically....should this of happened so soon? I just kinda assumed with it being worked on by some of the best that 26k miles was a pretty short life for this motor.

The tech did say that he felt that having 2mm seals with the 99 spec turbos (12psi) was not neccessarily the way to go and it should of been built with 3mm seals.

iceman4357 09-26-06 07:13 PM

Thats pretty strange. Is it 50 on all faces??? if the car sits there for an extended period of time the side seals can stick causing it to read really low. usually its the rear that reads lower. If you drive it daily, thats not many miles for not having huge mods to it.

GoodfellaFD3S 09-26-06 07:29 PM

What tech told you that? 99 spec turbos are basically stock turbos, and 12 psi is not a lot of boost. 3mm apex seals are definitely *not* required for your application, hell, they're not even required for mine. The motor should have last much longer at your power/boost levels......

iceman4357 09-26-06 07:34 PM

PS. you spelled accepted wrong, and you can use 2mm seals for high HP applications as well. Look up Lupe's car. 603rwp on 2mm stock mazda seals.

alexdimen 09-26-06 07:38 PM

yeah, i'd like to know who said that too. it sounds like it was the mazda tech. i've seen pics of an imploded rotor running 2mm seals and the seals weren't broken.

it'll be interesting to see why it failed and what the quality of parts used was like.

Thats pretty low asking for donations on here. You must be a democrat! Yeah Im accepting donatations to get a new set of wheels for my car. :cursing: Get a job mang.

RaPtOr-T 09-26-06 07:45 PM

Did you have any boost creep? Do the 99 twins have a bigger wastegate or something? I don't see anything to support that midpipe in your mods.

Go have a beer and spank your pud. It was a joke.

The car was driven by me the last 2 months atleast every other day for anywhere from 20-60 minutes each time.

No boost creep, but I did have some boost spike going on....but it was only 1-2psi and I always ran it at 10 psi so it shouldn't of caused a problem.

I don't know if it was 50 on all faces or not. They are going to call me tomorrow after they have decided how bad to rape me for a rebuild. The other rotor was at over 100 on all faces, but they didn't say over the phone (and I didn't ask) if it was 50 on just one face, or on all faces.

iceman4357 09-26-06 08:03 PM

who is they? madza? malloy?

Cool I learned a new word today!!! :)
:op:

silverTRD 09-26-06 11:32 PM

you said no boost creep and only a little spike...so what did you do to control it? was the wastegate ported? its very possible it happend (spike) when you were'nt looking. i.e. racing or "spirited driving"

anywho since you're in oregon you should go to pineapple racing. they sell waranty's ;)

spandy 09-26-06 11:39 PM

If they aren't going to warranty their work (the place I'm at) I am going to pull the motor myself and send it to Pinneapple....actually, I'll just trailer the FD up there and give me and my family an excuse to go on a vacation. :) Or send it to rotaryerection as he seems to have a good standing with everyone he has done work for.

I don't believe the waste gate is ported.

who is they? madza? malloy
Malloy Mazda installed the the reman, Kan checked it. I guess they missed something.

It's all good. I've actually been in good spirits since I found out, still is a downer nonetheless, but it's not a forever broken machine....just needs some attention.

spandy 09-26-06 11:43 PM

So do you guys want my paypal account number, or how are we doing this?

:rlaugh:

spandy 09-26-06 11:53 PM

Pineapple's web site says they do base rebuilds with a 5 year warranty for under 2700. This can't be right.....is it? It can't include pulling the motor and the rebuild would it?

I'm not looking to build a monster, I just want it back the way it was.

rynberg 09-27-06 02:44 AM

"reman motor"....enough said.

Good luck with the rebuild.

spandy 09-27-06 03:49 PM

What's wrong with a reman? And why do people go for them anyway, are they alot cheaper?

njstreetrx7 09-27-06 03:55 PM

my reman running very strong..i even get 456 inches vac at 900 rpm< actually doesnt fortell motor internals...but i wouldnt be knockin rremans!!

456 in/Hg!?! normal is 15-20

and why doesn't vacuum tell what the insides are like? true, it doesn't show what the compression area of the housings are like... but it tells you if the seals are working well in the intake area.

7_HEAVEN 09-27-06 04:40 PM

I love the idea of collecting a dollar from everyone for the rebuild/swap!! Having been there in the past (much pain and $$$), I will gladly mail you a buck!! good luck!

He means mm, that is what the power fc commander measure in.

I think it's a good idea to buy a reman and have it broken down for portwork and re-clearnancing, but if you install it as-is, you're taking a small chance. 90% of the remans I've broken down have needed side seal re-clearancing.

spandy 09-27-06 07:42 PM

How much does an LS1 swap cost?

:rlaugh: :molepoke: No thank you.
