Motivate me!

Need some motivation guys. My car has been down since May 2009 due to a blown engine. Since then I had gathered up everything I need to go single turbo with the rebuild (turbo, manifold, 1600cc secondary injectors, supra fuel pump (rewired), power fc, greddy profect b, single turbo wire harness, and a bunch more). I recently had the engine rebuilt in August and have it dropped in with the fuel system, lower intake manifold and electronics installed.

But for the past month or so I have not touched it, my wife works weekends now so I have to take care of the kids which leaves me with the evenings and nights to get it completed. I just cannot motivate myself to stay up late and get it done, being lazy I guess.

Get some beer and a buddy to help you out! I watch Top Gear or play Forza or Gran Turismo to help get me motivated some times. :D

millennm 11-19-10 05:53 PM

If I have a big job, I make myself put in an hour a day no matter what. After an hour I go back to being lazy. I'd think you'd be eager to hear it start up for the first time.

sevensix 11-19-10 05:55 PM

get a kiddie-pen set up in the garage and u're good all weekend. im thinking about taking the fd out late night tonight and cruising around town, that's what u're missing out on.

get to work

grego7 11-19-10 05:57 PM

I think the beer is part of the problem, I start drinking and just want to chill, especially after a long day at the office.

I cannot wait to hear it start up again and drive it, it is driving me mad.

grego7 11-19-10 05:58 PM

Hey you are in socal, why don't you stop by and give me a hand, lol just kidding.

grego7 11-19-10 06:08 PM

Also things have not been going so smooth with the install. I somehow cross threaded one of my tranny bolts and i'm not even sure how to fix that yet. I also busted the thermo sensor clip, not a big deal but one more thing I need to fix.

Have a meet in your house. I bet by the end of the day/night the engine will be in. If I was living in Cali still, I would help you out.

grego7 11-19-10 08:11 PM

engine is already in. I just need to finish the wire harness and bolt everything back up. i am so close but just not there. I also need someone to make a downpipe and pipe to go from turbo to intercooler for me.

how old are the kids? get them to help if their interested. good learning experience.

sevensix 11-20-10 06:51 AM

+1
That's how I go about it when I feel lazy...
I commit 1 hr every night after work and before you know it the car is up and running.
Most of the time you will find yourself working on it for more than an hour...:egrin:

This.

The worst of being depressed off anything is keeping it to yourself and being alone (i know you have your kids and wife) but i mean like isolating yourself from the rest of the world.

Once you have car guys around you on the weekend or the little time you have free, you'll get motivated. Trust me.

Or just watch youtube vids. I know it sounds stupid but whenever i watch like guys tracking their car or build videos, doesnt have to be an FD, could be anything a vette supra etc. Or people with their first start up or first drive whatever, gets me motivated to do it in the future. Even though im not going through a build now.

It really helps. Try it.

the kids are 1 & 3 so they would probably do more harm then help.

Hahaha, my three year old always wants to help in the garage...but unfotunately his idea of help is like polishing the car using an oily grit-covered rag he's picked up off the floor :scared: Nightmare!

As to motivation, it's a hard one. The finishing off is always the bit where it's easy to lose your way with all the fiddly faffing-about style jobs. It'd be a shame to waste all the work you've done so far though. I'd definitely agree that getting some mates round makes a massive difference to how positive you feel, certainly worked for me when my car shat itself on the dyno a month after being rebuild and we had to do it all over again. Talk about a motivational challenge!

Thanks everyone for helping out with my motivation problem. I actually worked on the car all day today and got a good amount done. I hit a road block though. I completely disassembled my throttle body to polish it and and am trying to figure out how to put it back together. I had a spare one that I was going to use as a guide but sold it without thinking. I have the the manuals that show which parts goes where (kind of) but am still having troubles. If anyone can take high res pictures of their throttle body and send them to me it would be greatly appriciated.

let me know

grego7 11-28-10 02:01 AM

Nevermind, I figured it out after about 3 hours of trying. What a pain

sevensix 11-28-10 03:27 AM

way to go. pictures time!

Nice!

Okay so I got the throttle body back together but When I manually open the throttle the butterflys do not open all the way. I can reach in there and open them up all the way. I need to figure out where I went wrong witht he assembly. If anybody can take some high res pictures that would be great. Or if anyone local can loan me a spare would be even better.

Also I have another issue. I have no clue which line goes where for water and oil on my turbo. Also need help for which fitting to buy. The turbo is a T04E

Let me know what you think

Its always in the worst quality. Track days are something to be proud of. I dont understand why they continue to use 1995 quality in filming their track races. Its just a waste of bandwidth.

RotaryEvolution 11-29-10 03:54 PM

you do know that youtube degrades the quality right? even most high quality camcorders aren't made to get quality sound with 100+Db blaring into the microphone..
