More boost
Can i turn my boost up to .9 from .8 and not sacrifice too much reliability,
apexi pfc fmic bov catless air filters street port What power gains will i see if i do this how much will it cost |
You'll gain 10 or 15 rwhp. Cost? Depends on if you get tuned, and depends on if you blow the motor from running without cats and a stock wastegate :)

Do you have a downpipe or catback? If so you need a boost controller anyway and then go from there.

The stock map in the PFC is good for about 12psi - that's been my findings. More than that and you'll need tuning.

And fuel. There is no way I would run 0.9 on the PFC (which is really 14 psi, not 13) with the stock fuel system.

Reliability based on boost is an inverse relationship (the more boost, the shorter the life of any engine due to increased stresses), assuming you don't have detonation or coolant seal failure, or some other problem that instantly breaks the engine.
So, IMO, the bottom line is: Slightly more boost is probably OK, since most early engine failures are from a specific problem such as detonation or coolant-seal failure, not marginally-increased wear. As Rynberg said, fuel-supply may be an issue in preventing lean-running, and resultant excessive heat or detonation. Dave |
I think i will leave it, so what is this about having a boost controller anyway?
I was going to ask as, i would liek to turn my boost right down sometimes in teh hope of gaining some extra fuel economy, and setting it so it doesnt go about where ity is now which is slightly more than .8 Im not too sure about this street port as my engine idle is fine although it does hunt sometimes, ie it may not have been done. thanks all again |

This has all been covered a million times. Do a search for midpipe, boost creep, and wastegate.

Thing is the new posts will generally be a rehash of old ones so get used to it. Anyway, i was always under the impression boost controllers where optional, i do search the forums but alot of my questions are specific for me, |
oh and be expecting a new post on boost controllers if i cant find a tailor made answer for my specific needs
