Moisture in coolant & oil...
 

So it looks like moisture is getting into my coolant & oil... & oil is getting into the coolant... my father, who knows more than me about cars said that indicates a blown head gasket... on a piston car... so what is the equivilant on our cars? Is it a bad gasket with a different name... or something worse?

& any guesses on repair costs, & how difficult a repair is to do by yourself would be nice too. & if anyone knows of a rotary shop in the South Bend, IN area, that'd be much appreciated as well.

We all expect moisture to be in the coolant as it is mostly water, BAWAHAAAAA!

If the engine is a rebuilt, then there will always be a little oil/lubricant in the coolant until the coolant is changed and flushed. This is normal rebuild cross contamination. Or can be an indication of really old worn out antifreeeze.

If you rotor housing seals were failing, the combustion process would heat up the coolant system causing overheating and overflowing of the system.


If your cooling system is acting normal, drain and flush it good. Only use distilled warter with you antifreeze mix.

It is normal been driving short distances or in cold water for combustion blow by to condense into the engine oil and appear around the oil filler cap. This happens to all engines.

I guess I'll just describe what I found...

I checked the level of my coolant with the dipstick to find this semi-thick mushy stuff on the dipstick. I also went to add some oil, & found this foamy whitish residue around the top of the filler & cap. I bought the car last August, & started driving it this spring, so I don't know the age of the coolant, but I did replace the oil.

I was planning on doing a full fluid system change just to be safe... since I don't know the condition/age of the fluids that came with the car... I just didn't want to replace the fluids, if the problem that is causing the 2 residues are from something else...

Any others have a diagnosis?

Probably nothin' to worry about. I've seen it on my coolant dipstick and I don't have any issues with coolant or oil loss. Errr, what color is the mush?

Again probably nothing. More than likely it's just condensation mixing with the oil in the filler neck.
Keep an eye on your coolant level, that'll let you know whether or not you have some sort of leak in the engine, also alot of white smoke from the exhaust is a bad sign. You might want to do the "champagne test" too. Do a search, it's easy to find.

Both are 100% normal in our or any car.
