Mods to beat a LS1 Trans Am?
What type of mods would I need on a stock FD to win over a LS1 TA? One of my friends just got one and he's talking shit. Friendly rivalry and that shit. So what type of mods do I need?
|
not much... they should be pretty even stock...
is the LS1 stock? with a few bolt ons you should be able to take him in a straight line, and absolutely slaughter him the the twisties |
Very stock. He's test-driving an auto. until Sat. and then he's ordering a 6-speed. Thanks for the quick reply.

Guys the ones you racing are prob Lt1 which run about like a 3rd gen stock. The ls1 is much faster stock. Get a intake, dp, catback and you'll be set to kill him.....as long as you can drive decent

i know the difference b/t the ls1 and the lt1. 10lbs of boost and a dp might keep you up with one on an interstate pull....
they are not god-like cars, but should be given respect. a simple 100shot will keep most fd's in its rear view... just think about them if you put 4k into one like most of the fd boltons will cost.....mti heads and cams pkg with some super roller rockers and exhaust on any ls1 will run high 11's on motor.... i am not sucking these cars off, just stating that they should not be bashed or understimated for the sake of a forum... signing out from "F-body" country |

Contrary to popular belief its not hard to get a FD into the VERY low 12's. All you need is a intake, full exhaust, PFC with base map runing 12-13psi of boost. Thats what I did anyway, with the rest of the car bone stock and a set of Nitto DR's. As a matter of fast that very race I ran a LT1 with a full exhaust, intake, gears, and either a 100 or 150 shot and he ran a 12.4, with close to the same 60 foot as me. I know a LS1 with those same mods you mentioned and a s/c with 13lbs of boost and he's running 11.2, without that 13lbs there is no way he would hit 11's. Not saying it isnt possible cause different parts of the country are different due to weather, ect but I've never seen it here. STEPHEN |
Yeah Firechickens can be pretty fast in a straight line. Thats about all they are good for. :D Watch out for the ones with juice and mods though!
|
yeah, i am really referring to the ls1 motors. they are strong. i know that the fd's can get into the 12'easy, but i have not seen i tin person. i am one of 2 fd's around here, and there is no local tuning or support. however, i am waiting on RP to get the pfc back in stock. then i will have them tune it. then, i am going to use a set of MT e/t slicks on bogarts for the run. then turbos to your buddy bryan at BNR.....then..............bust that dude in the t/a!
|
with just intake, y-pipe, dp & cb I can run with an LS1 vette... my buddy and are bout the same driving skill, and he usually takes 2 of 3 from me. the LS1 f-bodies are anther thing... they have less hp and quite a bit more weight (like 3500+ lbs). in the hands of the right driver, a LS1 f-body could take a FD, but I agree with most of you... it is close enough to come down to the driver....

Well i just raced a 2002 ws6 tonite, twice. we hit it from rolling start in first and by the time i shifted into third the front of his car was at my door so i was pulling but not by much. he had jsut dynoed his car too, and did 327 to the ground. i think if we had wound out 3rd gear i would have kept pulling but i was a pretty good race. my mods are as follows intake, dp, mp, cat back, ecu non-seq. he had a computer and thats about it, i believe. so thats my side of the story.

There aren't many things in life I get more enjoyment out of than sucking the paint off of the doors of the poor unsuspecting Vette, Firebird, SS owners around here. V8s rule Texas, indeed:D |
The only 2 experiences with LS1s I've had were
1) I was breaking in my new engine - couldn't run 2) My wife was in the car - couldn't run:mad: Both LS1s (one was a Z28 and the other a newer WS6) revved and I just sat there looking stupid:mad: - but when they dropped it, they both took off pretty quick. They are fast cars and don't think a stock FD could come close to one. I know LS1s run very low 13s and even a prime stock FD can only run 13.5 at 101 mph. |
the only other thing it could be is a friend says he had a 4.10 gear installed, could that have been a problem?

Originally posted by slopoke the only other thing it could be is a friend says he had a 4.10 gear installed, could that have been a problem? He runs 8.20's in the 1/8. We don't have a 1/4 mile strip within 100 miles. I've seen the timeslips. I haven't run at the track yet. I'm waiting on a clutch at the moment. My mods at the time, street port, dp, mp, cb, intake, remapped ecu(13.5psi), short shifter, dbar's non-seq mod. Oh, he did use ET streets on the 8.20 runs. He also owns a 2000 Camaro(LS1) that runs 7.30's with lots of mods and he's squeezing. |
I can hold my own in my town but what gets me is that every time my friend's race a v8 the v8's never use there 150 shoot of juice, but whin i race them thay always tend to use it. But thats ok, I have been racing them only with a downpip, catback exh. and intake now i got my pfc and fmic on the way.

What are you guys using for shift points? What revs?
What is the best standing start? Hold about 2500 rpms then go? |
At a standing start and at a place with good traction i hold at 5000 rmp's, if the place where i race does not have good traction i will hold my rpm's at 3-3500 and i shift at 78-8000rpm's
