Mmmmm... oil injection failing??
 

I've always heared that rotaries are oil drinker monsters... but not mine. Since I've my FD I've only seen the oil level going down aobut a couple of milimeters. Now I've been riding it for 1000 miles since the last oil change and the level is still there, almost the same point. Do you think guys this is normal? Am I having any king of oil injection failure issue?

I have had 4 rx7's previously, and the fd version does seem to not consume much oil. I had 2 FD's and they were the same, and I too worried about wheather they were getting enough oil to lubricate the rotor. Some owners mix oil in with the gas when they fill up, however I have not tried this method. A garage should be able to meter the amount of oil that is being released into the combustion chamber. There is a specification listed for this test. From my experience it seems to be the nature of the beast. I have also had two engines loose compression, and I wonder if they were getting the lubrication that is required to keep them running.

The harder you drive it, the more it will consume. If you are driving it easy (i.e. normal), you probably won't notice much oil consumption.

Sometimes when i check the oil level in my FD (1000 miles or so after changing it) it doesn't seem to go down. But a few days later i check it and it'll go down considerably. I started premixing a little just incase it does fail and i don't know it. It does hurt.

The FD has an electric oil metering pump that drips a small amount of oil into the motor. I think the amount is increased with boost also (I know the PFC allows you to control how much is injected).

I get very little oil consumption on my car as well. I do pre-mix with Idemetsu rotary specific pre mix oil (similar to 2 cycle oil) when I go on track.

Its a mechanical pump so im pretty sure as rpm increases so does oil consumption so if you drive your car hard it will eat more oil like previously stated. Just throw a little premix in your gas tank

It is mechanical (and driven by the e-shaft), but it's also metered outside of the actual pump.
