misfiring issue...dropped rotor
 

Ok, I just rebuilt my motor about a month ago...everything was fine when started and ran good...just random misfire. I would have to let my car warmup completely before I pulled off to drive, if not violent bucking...once it warmed up completely it drove perfectly fine. A few weeks later I got caught in some heavy rain...and had to drive through a small puddle, after the puddle my guages went out, but still lit. I change the fuse to the guages and everything was straight. A few days later while driving in the dry...I was cruising in 3rd gear at around 3k maybe hit 1 or 2psi, it misfired and just dropped a rotor...came back and dropped it again...now it won't come back on...at the same time the guages went out again. Does anybody have any idea what this problem is? I changed the plugs and it still does the same thing. I had to drive it to go to school yesterday and noticed as it got to 85c the misfiring is getting worse...could this be my coils? Any help would be appreciated.

Check first to see if you have spark on that that rotor. If you do then pull the plugs and see how they look. Try some new plugs. Since sometimes they come back on its most likely ignition related. If your harness is bad it could be a wire most likely at the shorter coil harness right where it plugs in. Another thing you can do is switch the wires around at the coils to determin if its the coils/signal wires. For instance if you are getting spark on the front rotor and not the rear switch the signal wires around and see if it switches sides. There is also a layout on how to test the coils with a multimeter in the fsm. It also might not be getting fuel, but if you pull the plugs and they look wet then you will know its not that.

Check your grounds, then clean them and reconnect.

I'll do this...I'm hoping its something like this, because the problem is getting consistently worse. I remember when I had a blown motor...at least the horrible performance was at one level and didn't continue to deteriorate. I'm going to do a compression test just in case, but it just boggles my mind if that is the culprit because I thought motors blow at WOT and not cruising at low rpm...I mean I was still breaking it in!
