Mines ECU vs. OEM ECU

What makes Mines ECU more special than OEM ECU? And is it really worth it? Right now I have Apexi Power FC, and Im thinking about switching it out to the Mines ECU. Any inputs?

Why do want to replace your Power FC with Mines? What part of it are you not happy with?

There's a MINES ecu???

You seriously want to waste almost $300, plus god knows how much on shipping (from China) for a beat ass stock ecu that somebody wrote on with an ink pen???

Please tell me you're kidding, and you're just looking for a mid-week troll...

Mines ECU's are generally tuned for Japanese premium fuel, which is 100RON (about 96 using our method). So with a Mines you are stuck using racing fuel. The ones they made for GT-R's worked pretty good if you had the exact match setup (injector size, MAF style, etc) but there was still the fuel issue. You can't reprogram them, so it's a dead end if you want to make any changes.

I would amend that Ebay listing, as to my knowledge, 1992- 2002 RX-7s use a different ECU plug configuration. Some poor guy could buy it and it wont plug into his car..

MADDSLOW 11-15-12 02:43 AM

I can't figure this thread out at all...

You start a thread asking if the Mine's ECU is better than stock, but you already have a Power FC. What does the stock ECU have to do with your situation?

cptpain 11-15-12 02:57 AM

Heres a question for you OP....

Whats better..... A chipped ECU..... or a fully programmable ECU?

CloudPump 11-15-12 07:41 AM

This has to be a joke...

You currently have a fully programmable ECU that you can have tuned to support whatever you'd like... and you want to switch it to a beat to shit ECU that you have no idea what it's tuned for and can't change the tune on it?

I'm facepalming so hard right now...

My input is sell your car, stop touching it immediately and find a buyer.

First of all, the plugs displayed on the ebay listing are not for a USDM 93-95 car. They look to be 96-98 or later.

If you want more simplicity in your life, then just go with the tried and true Pettit ECU. They can be had for around $300 on the club and will eliminate much of the guessing with hokey ebay sellers that know nothing of our cars. The Pettit, like all modified stock ECU's does have its limits with modification variance. Simply search and see what can be supported.

Ultimately, its your car and you can do what you like. Posting very little information shuts the door for members that truly want to help. Little detail and vague questions comes off as laziness or ignorance.

@OP

i will trade my m2 stage 3 ecu for your powerfc ;)

Everybody that has posted is correct (if that's possible) MiNES ecu's are dead ends as far as tuning is concerned. They work awesome with a piggy-back such as a SAFC but a deff. downgrade to what you currently have. Not worth the money and I have owned two of them.
