midpipe suggestions plz

looking into getting a mid pipe for my FD. They all seem and look to be the same. They also range from 150-400ish price. Is there any info on gain differences? Also your opinions and suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you,

No difference in them. Its just a 3 inch straight pipe.
If you need one let me know, I have a bunch here and will sell them for $110.

Get a "resonated" one. The rx7store one with a Magnaflow muffler in it is OK.

seanbrowning 05-10-06 03:30 PM

Get a resonated one if you don't want it to be ridiculously loud. If you can deal with the drone of a non-resonated MP, then that saves you some cash. Also, since its just a 3" piece of steel, used ones work well too. Be sure you have the supporting mods for a MP seeing as a full exhaust(no restriction from the cat) can cause boost creep.

Edit: If you're interested search the forums and you can find out some much louder a non-resonated one is.

thank you. I currently have a upgraded down pipe and a racing beat single cat back. Want to free up some ponies, heard getting rid of the cats is the way to go. Although I love my exhaust tone. Silent yet deadly. :fart:
My subaru has a 2.5 straight pipe with a muffler on it. I love the sound but sometimes its excessive when doing long term driving, plus the police love to pull me over for it.

Is there a big hp diff between a straight pipe or a res-pipe?

rynberg 05-10-06 04:18 PM

No HP difference. I don't think you should be going with a midpipe, given your current mods. A midpipe is a much more serious mod than a lot of people on here make it out to be. SEARCH.

Its gonna be loud, smell, and increase your risk of popping the motor about eleventy billion percent.

seanbrowning 05-10-06 04:51 PM

Yeah, without a proper way to deal with the boost creep, your motor will pop. Seriously, we know you just got your car, but for the love of all that is holy use the SEARCH feature. I've been on these boards for 1 and a half years and I don't even own a car. Search search search. Save posting for serious/odd problems and only after searching.

The midpipe will not necessarily make the car loud. It depends on the cat back. I had a downpipe, midpipe and stock cat back and it was very quiet.
As a sidebar, I now have a used midpipe for sale. PM me if interested.

If your going midpipe you should get one thats resonated, my friend just got pulled over the other day because his fd was to loud.

seanbrowning 05-10-06 09:03 PM

Depends on where you live, where I live we have a lot of ricers, so the cops LOVVEEEE giving tickets for too loud. Resonated will atleast cut it down some.

MazdaSpeed93 05-10-06 09:12 PM

I have a dp and a mp with the stock cat and it sounds like an old shitter truck, bubbly and everything, sounds good at wot though. No boost creep either so thats a plus.

Upgrayedd 05-10-06 10:55 PM

I have a 3' dp and 3' mp with and HKS HiPower cb and it's not nearly as loud as I expected... Granted at WOT it's probley loud enough to warrant a ticket, but otherwise it's fairly quiet compared to all the others I have heard (however most are N/A)... I am pleased with my RX7store mp! And listen to rynberg, he's a genius

How can you have an mp and the stock cat?

LMAO!!

Buy the resonated MP from RX7store.net!

maxcooper 05-11-06 06:02 AM

You seem to be blissfully unaware of how installing a midpipe might blow your engine. Find out before you buy one.

But get a resonated one if you do get one. Having the muffler in there makes it sound much better (quieter and deeper) and will essentially make the same amount of power.

i know there are consequences about the midpipe which is why i am asking your opinions. My car is currently sitting at pettit racing to get the oil pan fixed, then I wanted to get a upgrade my fuel pump and mid pipe while its there so cam can tune it.

Sgtblue 05-11-06 01:37 PM

Have them port the wastegate while it's there.

Boost Creep - A steady increase in maximum boost, usually at higher rpm. Creep is caused by the exhaust flowing more than the wastegate and turbo can control. The (only) solution is to either restrict overall flow or enlarge the wastegate opening. Installation of a cat-less midpipe often cause boost creep.
