Mid pipe questions
 

I currently have a racing beat single tip as a mid pipe, and a racing beat dual tip for a muffler. My car is pretty quiet, and I like it.

I have always heard the dual tip is pretty restrictive. Would going to a straight pipe make the car significantly louder, or would it free up the exhaust flow substantially?

I assume the dual tip would be the largest restriction so going to a straight pipe might not get me any worthwhile gains.

Any opinions?

I think I understand, though I'd like to know who made the midpipe out of a rb exhaust and why. You probably have the quietest rx7 with no cats.

Anyways, the racing beat dual tip should be bearable with a straight pipe.
I have run a greddy sp2 with a straight pipe and it was streetable. The rb2 should be much quieter than that.

I'm running the rb single tip and a stock cat, and at no point would I consider it loud.

They are both exhausts, and I purchased the single tip from another forum member. The exhaust note is very quiet, and I certainly don't mind :)

I guess the question boils down to would the single tip mid pipe be a restriction?

I have an RB single tip with a straight pipe and it sounds fantastic, it's still very quiet compared to anything else with a straight pipe. I was concerned about how loud it would be and I was very pleased.

The only issues you're going to have is the gas smell, that you can't really get away from. Since the car is not my DD I don't care. However if you do DD your car then I don't know how you'd feel about it.

I believe both single and dual tips flow the same as both mufflers are chambered mufflers. Your midpipe is a true 3" straight through muffler, not the same as the Racing Beat single tip catback. Any straight through muffler would be an improvement, sound depends on what you get. With a good muffler, its really not that bad. Have you ever heard my 4" with the Borla multicore mufflers lol? If you want to keep it quiet but open up the flow, your best bet would be the RE dolphin tip exhaust. I would check if your flanges on the midpipe are true 3" though.

I tested the Racing Beat restriction using backpressure and tuning comparisons a while back. It makes a difference, especially up top.

I was wondering if I switched to a straight pipe (keep the dual tip exhaust) would I pick up much power/spool.

There was a straight pipe on kijiji so thats what has me wondering if it was worth it.

Since almost by definition any muffler (RB single) provides some restriction...then yes, if you replaced it with a midpipe you'd likely pickup performance...both in power and quicker spooling. But it will almost certainly be louder too.

No, your restriction is all at the racing beat dual tips. A straight midpipe will make zero difference on your setup.
