Metal Moonroof >>>> Glass Moon Roof
What was the point of having some metal moon roofs and some glass? Until my dyno meet yesterday I thought they were all metal like mine. Personally I like the metal better, but both are cool.
Which models came with the metal VS the Glass? My car was a 94 PEP, it does seem like the glass ones were the touring with the bose. Just curious, seems like an un-necessary expense for mazda to make 2 different kinds (even the seal is completely different). Thanks. |
The moonroof came out with the 95 model. I dont think they had a sunroof available in 95.
|
You are right, all PEP and PEG models have painted metal roofs while all Tourings have glass roofs.
Unless of course someone swapped it. |
i have a 93 touring...metal roof....nobody's ever swapped it
|
Isn't that a bit weird? LOL

I have a 1994 touring with a glass sunroof. I think it was an option starting for 1994 models. But I'm not exactly sure of it. :)
|
I also have the touring with the glass roof....during the hot days of summer I can slip that plastic insert in to block the sun from coming through the glass...
Quick is right....it started on the 94's.... |
93 touring - metal sunroof
cant recall ever seeing glass on a 93 |
Metal sunroof on mine, too.
|
ok guys all bases and PEPs from 93-95 came with metal sunroofs.
all tourings made in 94 and 95 came with glass moonroofs. all tourings made in 93 came with a metal sunroof. sunroof = metal moonroof = glass |
i forgot to add that some bases did not have and sunroofs at all :)
|
Kind of off the subject, but how much would it cost to put a sunroof in my 93 that doesn't currently have one?
|
I thought tourings were only made in '93, and the PEP/PEG is the '94-'95 version of the touring.

Actually, I love my metal moon roof, but an rx7 without one is better looking. You can clearly see the double bubble which is one of the defining things with the -7-. |
Bases are just that, base models and NONE of them came with sunroofs.
I haven't seen a 93 Touring with a metal roof, all of them have been glass. |
thanks zerobanger, would you get a sunroof if you currently didn't have one?
|
'93 touring, metal sunroof, never been replaced.
If you check the 93 service manual, they have a section for sliding glass, as in windows, and the sunroof is not included, if that helps. |

I have a 94 PEP with a metal sunroof.
I like the glass better, but I think we have less sound deadening and weigh 200 1bs less?? |
I have a '93 touring. All records and no changes.
The roof is metal. |
The 94 touring models are the only ones to come with a glass moonroof.
|
Only a 94 touring has glass unless you saw a car where someone switched it.

Originally posted by JONSKI I thought tourings were only made in '93, and the PEP/PEG is the '94-'95 version of the touring. PEG was '94 only PEP was '95 only PEG and PEP packages are really the same package and have some of the touring model features. Glass Sunroof was only available on '94 touring(page 21 of '94 brochure) but they can be easily swapped into any of the metal-roofed cars since the mechanisms are identical. From production #'s, there were only 1688 '94 Tourings made which makes the glass moonroof much rarer than the metal sunroofs. |
Edit: Doublepost

Originally posted by maxpesce since you already have a sunroof (assuming oem) you just have to find a Glass Panel for it - Either from a MAZDA dealer (expen$ive) or a junkyard. they both use the SAME rails and Mechansim, the Glass & Metal pannels ARE interchaingable. I was quoted about 145.00 for the seal from the mazda dealer. |
Originally posted by ZeroBanger keep in mind while that is true, the seal that goes around the metal/glass are different. In the glass one the seal extends over the glass, while the metal seal is just on the side all the way around. I was quoted about 145.00 for the seal from the mazda dealer. a used panelw/seal from wrecker wil probably cost less than the seal alone from the Dealer. |

I was joking about the 173, lol. But stacy, it would cost a fortune to put the factory moonroof in the rx7. You can only go aftermarket with one of those cheap roofs. lt will ruin the beautiful roof. If would NOT put one in if it doesn't have it. [/B][/QUOTE]
I did think that was kindof cheap for a whole moonroof assymbly. I figured it would cost an arm and a leg to put one in. I don't think I'll go aftermarket, I can live without it. Oh, and my name isn't stacy, It's Jack. Have you ever heard of ecstacy, I figured it went well with RX-7 so what the hell. LoL |
I need headroom in the cabin. My now crashed 93 with standard roof was fine. How much headroom is lost by the moonroof, and how much lost by the sunroof?
|
Um, none?
|
That Stacy shit is to funny. Glad you did'nt use Jack in the name.
