Me + Hammer and Pliers = Ghetto Fender roll *pics*

So after putting 245/40/17 Khumo MX's on, it's too low and the fenders keep getting pulled up and tearing up the tires.

After a body shop quoting me $100 I decided to take matters into my own hands:

If it doesn't rub then I'll do the otherside and then sand both down nicer and throw some touchup paint on it so it at least mostly matches the paint.

full size pics from a Canon digital rebel are there if you remove the word "sized" from the urls.

yeah yeah I know, my poor FD is dirty :D

ps I polished my Fikse center caps but I need some orings for them, anybody know where I can get some?

definatly ghetto... but what ever works.

rx7raca 04-11-04 06:26 PM

Why not raise the car alittle bit, or atleast do the whole fender and not just that little part. You should make it flow better. It just looks out of place or something.

FormerPorscheGuy 04-11-04 06:27 PM

I do the same but with a foot long socket extension.

Jedon 04-11-04 06:29 PM

So you think I should pull the rest of the folded under part out as well?

I tried rolling it under first but it didn't move far enough.

I don't really want to fork out the cash for new springs right now.

FstFD3SPOWER 04-11-04 06:35 PM

$100 aint htat bad... i think.

NukeGenius 04-11-04 06:53 PM

That's wierd because mine is probably lowered just as far as yours is, but I have 18's on mine and I got it up far enough by rolling it up under so it was pretty much flat against the inside. I'd suggest doing that, because it looks a lot better.

turbojeff 04-11-04 07:10 PM

Gross dude.

Rolling fenders usually refers to rolling the lip *under* so that the tire edge can't catch the fender.

What happened to the wheels? They look like hell too. They shouldn't have needed much maintenence, just a wash when you wash the car with some mild soap. They look corroded.

The o-ring should be available at an auto part store.

7racer 04-11-04 07:28 PM

$100 is cheap!

you can also rent the tool from what I heard.

here is a step-by-step
http://www.overboost.com/story.asp?id=131

if you want to do it your self....

btw...I vote for rolling under.....heat gun usually helps....

"A" for effort....

Jedon 04-11-04 07:46 PM

The wheels have a clearcoat that is deterioriating. No amount of cleaning makes them look nice. I need to have the re-polished and coated for ~ $100 per wheel.

NukeGenius 04-11-04 07:47 PM

Also, one of the import tuner mags has a "how-to" on rolling fenders this month. Just for future info. I am truly that bored that I read all those damn ricer mags this month. I hate this place sometimes.

black99 04-11-04 07:50 PM

Should just bend that lip up and in, against the inside of the fender.. I think you kinda did it backwards..

moehler 04-11-04 07:57 PM

You have Fikse wheels and your worried about spending $100
It looks pretty bad IMO.

widebody2 04-11-04 08:01 PM

come on man

Jedon 04-11-04 08:20 PM

Just thought I'd try it and see how it looked :)
I'll try bending it under really far now.

RX-187 04-11-04 08:22 PM

yeah. Sorry, that's not a way any FD should look.

SpeedKing 04-11-04 08:59 PM

Jedon: What's the offset of those front wheels and what is your suspension setup?

rzograbian 04-11-04 09:01 PM

wow, nice try....... :) arent you suppose to roll them inside and not out???

nice try though :)

tt2323 04-11-04 09:04 PM

Poor FD :(

Good idea. :) Bending it in, so it touches(or almost touches) the inside of the fender is a much better idea/look. Other than that, don't see too much wrong with it. Sure the wheels need a little work, and the car is dirty but sometimes dirt happens with a car that sees alot of use.

And the kid in the other thread with the 16" Konig's f*cked up his car waaaaaay worse than you did.. Rather have Fiske's that need work than 16" Konigs in good condition. :)

......................

That's what I was about to say...I always thought it was supposed to squish the lip towards the inside...Damn dude, after you get it fixed and the time you spend doing it, you should have just spent the $100...$100 when you are talking FD really isn't that much.

I saw those...Damn, wasn't going to say anything but since you said it...I'll say, they look like @$$.... :puke:

AMRAAM4 04-11-04 09:48 PM

Jesus dude, do you even take care of that car?

PVerdieck 04-11-04 10:08 PM

Be sure to followup and post some pics with you put the aluminum landing strip on the hatch.

Jedon 04-11-04 10:29 PM

SpeedKing: Not sure what the offset is. The suspension is Racing Beat springs with GAB Super's.
Mods here: http://fd3s.nopro.com

PVerdieck: All my mods are for either performance, reliablity or safety, why would I put a silly wing on?
