Nope. Most people grind down the letters to raw metal, and then clear.

What do u grind them with

sand paper, a dremel, an angle grinder

whatever works

I've used the flap wheel attachment on the Dremel. Makes an easy job out of it. Sometimes it helps to go over the letters to get them smooth, then paint the calipers, then do a quick once over to remove the paint. Makes it a lot easier. The flap wheel is pretty forgiving to use, it's not too aggressive.

Did mine that way 10 years ago. Still holding up

I carefully cut the paint off with a blade before it fully cured and then lightly sanded with sandpaper. I used high temp clear engine enamel from autozone over the raw metal.

I used a silver sharpie to color the letters in.... it holds up just as well as the paint. No need to complicate the process

Dremel and a sanding drum about 18 years ago. It’s aluminum so clear-coat isn’t an absolute must.

Sprayed silver paint into a cup and then used a flat cheapo foam brush to dab it on. The letters are raised enough that it isn't hard to get the paint on them and miss the caliper. You can do the letters any color this way and you don't have to sand anything.

Paint Pens are great for this and can be found for cheap at your local craft store.
If you want to spend $30 a torque stripe pen would guarantee longevity.

Looks great! It's one of those easy mods that makes you smile every time you walk up to the car.

Did you guys do your rears?

DaleClark 07-10-20 08:46 AM

I painted my rear calipers. Both front and rear are back and I have the Mazda logo sanded to the aluminum. Rear is just black, they aren't fancy calipers so no sense in trying to put a logo or something on them.
